A new series on A&E Network heads to Louisiana’s bayou when Duck Dynasty premieres March 21 at 10p. The series introduces the Robertsons and their sporting family operation, Duck Commander that manufactures top-of-the-line duck calls and decoys out of salvaged swamp wood. Duck Dynasty is produced for A&E Networks by Gurney Productions.
Syfy is renewing its reality competition series Face Off for a third season, giving the new season a 10-episode order. Production on the third season begins this spring for a summer 2012 premiere. Casting for trained and self-taught special effects makeup artists is presently underway and the current second run of Face Off airs on Wednesdays at 10p.
Reality series Fix This Kitchen, airing its second season in the US on A&E Network will debut April 15 on SBS 6 in Amsterdam. The format was created and developed jointly by IKEA and its worldwide media agency MEC Entertainment, part of MEC. The Dutch version of Fix This Kitchen was produced by Telegraaf Media Video and GroupM/MEC Entertainment. IKEA is the sponsor of both the US and Dutch versions of the show.
Bounce TV made two separate, multi-year licensing deals with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution and Paramount Home Media Distribution to acquire African-American targeted movies. Titles acquired from Warner Bros. include Bird, Shaft, Greased Lightning, The Mack, Let’s Do It Again and Rosewood. Titles from Paramount include Critical Condition, Mahogany, Lady Sings the Blues, Best Defense, Vampire in Brooklyn and Heart Condition. Select new titles will air in Bounce TV’s Brown Sugar Saturday Night, the network’s new weekly movie primetime franchise that showcases urban cinema with a 1970s skew.
ABC Family has ordered the drama pilot Bunheads from Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino to series. Sutton Foster stars as a Las Vegas showgirl who suddenly gets married and moves to the small town where her husband lives. The new wife works at a dance school operated by her new mother-in-law.
New single-camera comedy pilot, NBC’s Friday Night Dinner cast Tony Shalhoub (Monk) and Allison Janney (West Wing) to play the parents, Gene and Barbara, per THR. The plot, adapted from a UK format by Greg Daniels centers on a quirky family that has dinner together every Friday night. Universal Television is producing with Howard Klein, Ken Kwapis and Daniels serving as EPs.
Submissions Call: The CTAM Educational Foundation is accepting Diversity Fellowship applications now through March 16, 2012 to attend the Cable Executive Management at Harvard Business School (CTAM U) from June 10-15 in Boston. Saturday A18-49 Analysis: ABC, CBS and FOX jointly shared the top spot on Saturday at 1.0/3 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. FOX won the 8p hour with double Cops episodes at an average of 1.3/4 followed by CBS’ back-to-back Comedytime Saturday encores at an average of 0.9/3. ABC did best at 9p with ABC’s Movie of the Week repeat at 1.1/3 followed by a tie for second place between CBS’ Crimetime Saturday rebroadcast and Univision’s Sabado Gigante at 1.0/.3 each. At 10p, a new episode of 48 Hours Mystery on CBS won at 1.3/4 and ABC’s Movie of the Week was a step behind at 1.2/4.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis: NBC commanded a giant lead Sunday primetime among A18-49 at 35.0/67, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. At 7p, Super Bowl XLVI on NBC delivered a 39.3/79 and next in line was Univision with La Rosa de Guadalupe at 0.6/1. NBC posted a 41.7/79 during 8p for more of Super Bowl XLVI and Univision placed second with Parodiando at 1.3/2. In the 9p hour, NBC tallied a 40.7/73 for a combination of Super Bowl XLVI and the Post-Game while Univision’s Parodiando was next at 1.5/3. Then at 10p, NBC maintained a top berth position with the Super Bowl Post-Game and the premiere of The Voice at an average of 21.9/46 (The Voice posted a stand-alone 18.1/40) and ABC moved into second place with double Modern Family repeats at an average of 1.1/3.

NBC’s The Voice surged during 9p to a 7.5/18 and CBS came next with its sitcoms Two and a Half Men and Mike & Molly at an average of 3.9/9. Gerhard Zeiler was tapped as President of Turner Broadcasting System International, the worldwide portfolio of branded television networks and associated properties under Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. Gerhard joins from RTL Group, a unit of Bertelsmann AG where he is currently the CEO. In his new position, Gerhard will head the company’s international division’s strategy to shore up established interests and develop new business.
Effective immediately, Cristina Schwarz will take on the responsibility as VP/Programming and Production for Univision Cable Networks by Univision Communications Inc. In her new role, Cristina will jointly report to Jessica Rodriguez, SVP of Univision Cable Networks and Sebastian Trujillo, SVP/Operating Manager for Galavision.
