Cyn opsis: Kids!

09/18/06

Good morning. It’s Monday, September 18, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

More information on DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming CG animated feature film adaptation of Jay Ward’s Mr. Peabody & Sherman, which will be directed by Rob MinkoffBullwinkle Studio’s Tiffany Ward (daughter of the late Jay Ward) and Classic Media’s Eric Ellenbogen will serve as Executive Producers on the movie.  Long-time producing partners Jason Clark and Minkoff will oversee development, with a screenplay penned by Andrew Kurtzman.  The Peabody & Sherman animated stories premiered in 1959 as part of Ward’s Rocky & Bullwinkle TV series.  In each episode Peabody, a spectacle-wearing dog, took Sherman, a young spec-wearing boy, on a trip back in time to explain, humorously, an historical event  or at least a version of that event, and proving that, “every dog should have a boy.”

MORE KIDS STUFF

MARKETING/LICENSING

Brandgenuity, LLC. has put together a range of new licensing agreement for LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc, in an effort to expand the LeapFrog brand across multiple categories.  New license deals include: Cardinal Industries (games); MasterPieces (puzzles); Learning Horizons (educational supplements including workbooks); Scholastic (books); Sassy (infant and developmental products); Kids Headquarters (apparel).  The first products are available in stores now.

Nickelodeon and Activision Value Publishing, Inc. have entered into a distribution agreement, under which Activision will be the exclusive distributor of three new Nick Jr. PC CD-ROM titles, Dora The Explorer, The Backyardigans and Go, Diego, Go!  The three titles will be released in later this month.

The LEGO Group has inked a third party licensing deal with HiTechnic to develop/manufacture/market hardware accessories for the new LEGO Mindstorms NXT robotic toolset.  LEGO is looking at this partnership, a first for the company, to underline its commitment to community driven innovation and open-source development.  Under the deal, HiTechnic will develop accessory sensors compatible with NXT in look, style and function, and that will integrate with its software.  The first of the sensors, a digital compass sensor that offers a magnetic heading for navigation and orientation of NXT robots, is slated for release later this month and will be followed later this year by an RGB color sensor, which will allow robots to identify and respond to specific colors.

VIZ Fiction, an imprint of VIZ Media, will publish three new novels three new original novels this fall 2006.  Based on the anime and manga properties Rurouni Kenshin and Naruto will be release in October and November respectively.  The third title will be based on Be With You, a best-selling novel in Japan, and will publish in November 2006.

Tomorrow, September 19, 2006, is the annual International Talk Like A Pirate Day.  Don’t laugh; it isn’t a joke. We here at this house take all things pirate related very seriously.  The official, one and only, International Talk Like A Pirate Day website will offer all the explanations ye will ever need ( http://www.talklikeapirate.com/piratehome.html ).  See I’m sliding already.  If the folks at Disney are paying attention, that third pirate movie of yers might just walk-the-plank on such a day.  Aye, until the ‘morrow matey.

Did anyone out there truly think that Janet Jackson’s career ended with her appearance at the half time show at the 2004 Super Bowl?  Well, it didn’t.  Her new single, Call on Me, a duet with singer Nelly, off of Jackson’s upcoming album 20 Y.O. has taken the number one spot on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart, which is based on a combination of radio airplay and sales.  The song is Jackson’s 15th number one song and the 30th top 10 single on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.  In addition, Ms. Jackson will be on lots of TV talk shows and will grace the cover of magazines including W, FHM, Giant, Ebony and Billboard throughout the month.  20 Y.O. will be released on September 26, 2006.

Answer to Friday’s Trivia Question:
This company’s mascot is little more than the product itself, donned with cap and cane, as designed by a child in 1916, and for his design he was paid a whopping $5.  The mascot is still in use today.  Who or what is it?  MR. PEANUT.  Kudos to:  Bret Rice–Comcast Spotlight/Pittsburgh; Adam Idelson-Never Idle Inc/NYC; Christine Ferrara-WSBK/Boston; Cassel Kroll-Lexicomm Group/NY; Rachel Capata-Kauff MCClain & McGuire/LA; Kevin Miller-New Wave Entertainment/Burbank; Josh Fisher-Brandissimo/LA; Justin Meadows-Disney/ABC Cable Networks Group/Burbank; Mary Warner-Sullivan Entertainment Inc./Toronto

Today’s Trivia Question: She worked along side of Mary Ingalls running the school for the blind.  Who was she? ( click here with your answer and be sure to include your name, company, city and time zone. Unofficial rules: Only the second four correct answers from each time zone will be mentioned; and once you’ve been mentioned in any of the Cynopsis editions, you can’t be mentioned again that calendar week.)
