So, let’s say you’re out of the country – at MIPCOM for instance – and you’re missing your favorite NFL team playing back home.  If it’s a game shown on NBC, you’re in luck.  NBC has signed a deal with Yahoo to stream its NFL games to people outside the US, for a weekly fee of $24.99 or a seasonal fee of $250.  Under the NFL Game Pass program, all games shows on NBC will be offered, and will also be archived by Yahoo for up to 24 hours.  You might want to make note of this website address:  www.nfl.com/nflgamepass, in case you do find yourself outside the US.

Katie is three for three: CBS Evening News with Katie Couric came in first place for the third consecutive night last Thursday, tho down again from the evening before.  CBS began the week with 13.59 million viewers on Tuesday, Wednesday 10.13 million viewers, and on Thursday 9.48 million viewers, an overall declined from its premiere of 30%. ABC was #2 on Thursday with 6.58 million viewers; NBC’s Nightly News is not included in the weekly average because of low coverage due to the NFL season opener. In the key demos on Thursday, CBS earned a 2.5 A25-54 and 1.8 among A18-49.

A little good news from the homefront — John Turner, a college crew coach and a gold medal Masters Nationals champion, came in 10th overall in his class at the World Championship Rowing Regatta yesterday in Princeton.  Who is John Turner?  He’s that big good lookin’ guy I married 25 years ago.  I think I’ll keep him.

* PRODUCTION / DEVELOPMENT / CASTING *

NBC has Spike Lee developing a scripted drama for the network based on the current lives of those living in New Orleans.  Titled NoLa, local slang for the city’s name, the project will be shot in New Orleans and focus on how people from various backgrounds and economic status, are managing to pull their lives back together.

Casting Call: From Endemol USA, the producers of Deal or No Deal, here comes a new game show — Show Me What You Got, airing this season on ABC.  If you’re over 21, are gainfully employed (no actors or actor wannabes), and think a few million bucks might be a nice addition to your bank account, then you’ll want to consider being a contestant.  Be prepared to answer these questions – why America would love to see YOU win millions of dollars, and what you would do with the money if you did win.  If interested, contact [email protected], or call direct at 818-288-4800.  Good luck!

Casting Call: HGTV is casting for a new home improvement show and is looking for African-American, Hispanic and Asian families who live in the tri-state area. The show’s host will work with homeowners to tackle their mounting “to-do” lists. Energetic homeowners should apply by submitting their name, address, phone number, a paragraph describing themselves and digital photos of their family, as well as details and photos of the home improvement projects to: Brenda Della Casa at [email protected]. Interested homeowners should act quickly as the deadline is tomorrow, September 12.

Casting Call: TLC is currently casting for a new makeover show hosted by Stacey London of What Not to Wear fame. If you are a woman between 25-40 years old, live within an hour of Manhattan and need a self-confidence boost because you are: stuck in a career rut, single and dating but not meeting Mr. Right, recently divorced and scared of dating again, or recovering from a loss or accident, the producers want to hear from you right away. Send your name, age, marital status, email address, primary and secondary contact phone numbers, address, details of your story and why you need a lift, your weekday availability to interview in person and a photo to: [email protected]. Interviews will begin this week and only complete submissions with photos attached will be considered.

IN RE:  SURVIVOR

For those who are so sure something they haven’t even seen yet will “enforce racial stereotypes” – how about considering this: if you can’t imagine that there would be any other behavior than that which would enforce racial stereotypes, perhaps the problem is your inability to think beyond stereotypes.   I’m not even a Survivor watcher & I don’t get the problem since racial stereotyping seems much more likely when you’ve got a “token” than when you have a team.  Tell me: How can you debunk racial stereotypes better than showing a group of Real People (of whatever “minority”).

and re

“the American Family Association’s plan to bombard the FCC with complaints about CBS airing the award-winning 9/11 documentary on September 10”

How about if THE REST OF US bombarded the FCC with complaints about the AFA’s insistence on air-brushing reality.   Do you think Anyone’ s reaction on 9/11 was “golly, gosh, gee, that’s just awful”  ??

Reading the comments on Survivor, it’s quite obvious which are from people who have never watched a single episode.  They are getting on their soapboxes to complain about something they don’t even understand.
It would be humorous if it weren’t so annoying.

Where were all these irate viewers when the teams were men vs. women?  Did that threaten to set back women’s rights?  What about when it was older people vs.
younger people?  Did AARP boycott?  Obviously not.
People are so sensitive they hear the word “Race” and go ballistic without even knowing what it is they’re arguing about.

It’s a TV show people, get a grip!  Or better yet, watch the show.

Survivor fan, NYC
