Amid uncertainty about who will carry NBA games after next season, Charles Barkley announced that he is retiring. “I talked to all the other networks, but I ain’t going nowhere other than TNT,” said the Emmy-winning Basketball Hall of Famer, who has spent 25 years at TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” on Friday. “I have made the decision that no matter what happens, next year is going to be my last year on television,”

There will be no interruptions during CNN’s June 27 presidential candidate debate – when the allotted time for President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump has run out, their mics will be muted. There will be two commercial breaks during the debate, during which candidates will be prohibited from consulting with campaign staff.

Peacock’s “The Traitors” was the big winner at the 6th Critic Choice Real TV Awards, taking home four, including Best Competition Series, Male Star of the Year (Alan Cummings), Best Ensemble Cast in an Unscripted Series and Best Show Host. Among other winners were “Top Chef” for Best Culinary Show, “We’re Here” for Best Structured Series, “Planet Earth III” for Best Animal/Nature Show, “The Voice” for Best Competition: Talent/Variety Show, and “The Golden Bachelor” (Best Relationship Show).

Why was Apple TV+’s “The Problem with Jon Stewart” canceled after two seasons? “The deal is I get to do what I want until it’s going to hurt their beer sales or whatever it is they want to sell,” said Stewart on “The Town” podcast. “And that’s the deal we all make.” Stewart added he “knew we were in trouble” after he did an interview with economist Larry Summers, who asked him if he thought Apple was “somehow gouging, or doing something wrong.” Stewart’s response of “Yes, of course!” drew a reaction from Apple executives that caused him to realize, “We’re trying to make the best most insightful execution of the intention that we can make, but they’re protecting a different agenda.” But Stewart doesn’t blame Apple. “Nobody is owed a platform,” he noted. “And when you’re in somebody’s house and they want you to take your shoes off, you take your f–king shoes off or you go to somebody else’s house.”

NBC ordered five more episodes of “St. Denis Medical,” for a total of 18. The mockumentary from Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin (“Superstore”) will premiere this fall, airing Tuesdays at 8p.

New series currently in production at Adult Swim include “Get Jiro,” based on the DC/Certigo graphic novels by writers Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose, and “Super Mutant Magic Academy,” from J.G. Quintel (“Regular Show”) and Jillian Tamaki. Set for season three is “My Adventures with Superman.”

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Firsthand accounts from inside natural disasters are revealed in the new series, “In the Eye of the Storm.” The show premieres Sunday, July 14 at 10pon Discovery Channel, right after the net’s Shark Week “ keeping audiences engaged with incredible accounts of near-death experiences caused by nature’s greatest forces,” said Howard Lee, President of Discovery Networks.

“Naked and Afraid: Last One Standing,” Discovery Channel’s #1 series in 2023, is back Sunday, July 14 at 8p. Fourteen “Naked and Afraid” all-stars test their survival skills in the African bush for 45 days.

RETAIL MEDIA

GroupM announced a strategic partnership with Incremental, provider of retail media solutions. The deal incorporates Incremental’s retail media forecasting, planning, and measurement capabilities into Open Media Studio, the media delivery platform built by Choreograph and available to GroupM teams as part of WPP Open. GroupM clients will have access to AI-driven planning, optimization, and analytics intelligence. “Planning and measuring retail media comes with more complexity than other digital channels,” said Samantha Bukowski, Global Head of Commerce at GroupM. “By bringing Incremental’s best-in-class retail media capabilities into Open Media Studio, our clients can maximize their retail investments with consistent measurement methodologies, rooted in true incrementality.”
