CBS handed full-season orders to freshman series “Fire Country,” “East New York” and “So Help Me Todd.” The shows are the number one, two and three new series, respectively, on any network. “CBS is off to a tremendous start this season,” said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment. “We are thrilled to have the three most watched new series, each with their own unique settings, characters and storylines. These dramas are elevating our already successful lineup, resonating with diverse audiences both on-air and on streaming, and continuing to grow each week.”
Netflix is expanding its gaming efforts, including “very seriously exploring a cloud gaming offering,” said VP of Game Development Mike Verdu. Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt, Verdu said, “We’ll approach this the same way as we did with mobile — start small, be humble, be thoughtful — but it is a step we think we should take. The extension into the cloud is really about reaching the other devices where people experience Netflix.” The streaming company has plans to launch an additional studio in Southern California, according to a Netflix spokesperson, overseen by Chacko Sonny, former executive producer for Activision Blizzard’s Overwatch franchise.
Josh Campbell will head up CNN’s new “Guns in America” initiative, which will include reporting and analysis from Stephen Gutowski, founder of firearms reporting site Reload; Jennifer Mascia from The Trace; and reporter Abene Clayton. The team “will explore who buys and sells guns; who makes and regulates them; and dive into the communities most impacted to help illuminate possible solutions to America’s epidemic of gun violence,” said the news net.
Anthem Sports & Entertainment has teamed with Movember, the charity dedicated to men’s health. Two of Anthem’s networks, AXS TV and HDNET Movies, are presenting programming events celebrating mustachioed movie stars in support of the organization’s efforts to help men improve their physical and mental well-being.

Fox Entertainment has signed producers Carol Mendelsohn (“CSI”) and Julie Weitz to a multi-year first-look broadcast direct deal. Under the terms of the agreement, Mendelsohn and Weitz will develop scripted dramas for Fox. Greenlit programs will be wholly owned by Fox Entertainment, and Mendelsohn and Weitz will serve as executive producers under their Carol Mendelsohn Productions banner.
Skratch and Mastercard are partnering for a two-part series documenting the journey of APGA Tour Player of the Year Kamaiu Johnson, who won the inaugural Mastercard APGA Player Achievement Award in 2022 and with it an exemption to play on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, beginning in December. Over six episodes, “Relentless Pursuit” will follow Johnson as he competes on the APGA for the award, prepares for PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and eventually finds out whether he is able to keep eligibility status or qualify for the Korn Ferry Tour and continue the path to the PGA TOUR.
Peacock comedy “Bupkis,” starring Pete Davidson, has added six guest stars: Charlie Day (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”), Ray Romano and Brad Garrett (“Everybody Loves Raymond”), former “SNL” castmate Kenan Thompson, Chase Sui Wonders (“Bodies, Bodies, Bodies”), and Simon Rex (“Red Rocket”).
More casting for Apple TV+’s Spanish-language crime rama “Las Azules”: Ximena Sariñana (“La casa de las flores”); Natalia Téllez (“Enfermo amor”); and Amorita Rasgado (“El Dandy”) are among those set for the series.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES
PBS Kids’ “City Island,” a series of animated shorts aimed at early elementary school-age kids, premieres December 26 featuring a civics curriculum. This follows the debut of “Molly of Denali: The Big Gathering” shorts starting November 7.
“Oh Hell No… with Marlon Wayans” debuts Wednesday, October 26. Hosted and executive produced by Marlon Wayans (“Marlon”), the six-parter features celebrity guests tackling their fears and phobias through the power of VR. New episodes will debut weekly at 12p on Wayans’ Facebook and Instagram pages.
Season 12 of “Moonshiners” launches Wednesday, November 9 at 8p. Between inflation and supply chain disruptions in Appalachia, it will take creative thinking to produce backwoods beverages this time around on the reality series.
Season two of celebrity interview show “Algo Personal con Jorge Ramos” (Something Personal with Jorge Ramos) premieres Sunday, November 6 at 10p on ViX+ with a conversation with Mexican actor Diego Luna.
Daytime court show “Hot Bench” returns for season nine on Monday October 31 with two new judges joining Judge Michael Corriero. “Judges Yodit Tewolde and Rachel Juarez bring an exciting new energy and a fresh, new dynamic to our series that viewers know and love,” said “Hot Bench” EP David Theodosopoulos. “Their diverse backgrounds and experiences are a beautiful complement to Michael.”

Why is Netflix releasing “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” in a limited number of theaters for a week before its streaming debut? “For all those folks who can’t get to a city or where a festival is, this one-week release on 600 screens is a way of creating access to the film and building buzz,” explained Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos during the company’s 3Q22 earnings call. “I would look at this as another way to build anticipation for the film and build buzz and build reputation for the film ahead of its Netflix release.”
VIZIO WatchFree+ is introducing its Fall Fest programming lineup starting this week, featuring TV series premieres, new movies and stunts in VIZIO Features channels. Among the offerings: Two exclusive original series from Blue Ant Media, “Haunted Gold Rush” and “Hotel Paranormal.” Also launching on VIZIO WatchFree+ is MagellanTV channel Space Science Now, featuring a collection of premium space and science documentaries and series.
Vidgo has introduced VidgoMás, a new premium subscription plan that features 42 live and on-demand Spanish-language channels, including content from Univision and UniMás local broadcast stations, as well as Fox Deportes, Discovery Familias and other entertainment options.

Twenty-six percent of mobile gamers will download an app because it has better functionality than the website, according to a survey from Digital Turbine In partnership with GWI. Other highlights include:
· 52% of mobile gamers will be influenced to download an app if it is from a trusted/known brand or developer.
· Only 15% of mobile gamers would delete an app over privacy issues.
· 59% of mobile gamers typically play while watching TV.
· 44% of users delete an app because they got bored of it and it did not sustain their attention.
· 65% won’t install an app if they have to pay for it.

Concert special “Camilo: El Primer Tour De Mi Vida” premieres Friday, November 18 at 10p on HBO Latino and HBO Max. The special follows Colombian-born Camilo on his first world tour.
The 37th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will air Saturday, November 19 at 8p on HBO. Inductees include Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie and Carly Simon.
NBC News’ Al Roker and Savannah Sellers jump networks to host “Burning Questions: Covering Climate Now,” premiering on public television’s World Channel on October 25 at 8p.
SPORTS
ESPN+ premiered “NBA Crosscourt,” a new studio show streaming twice weekly, yesterday, October 19. Hosted by Cassidy Hubbarth and Rosalyn Gold-Onwude, the show features trending NBA news, highlights, interviews and more, along with contributions from Israel Gutierrez, Brian Windhorst, Ohm Youngmisuk and other ESPN analysts and reporters. The show will stream Wednesdays and Fridays exclusively on ESPN.
ESPN has reached extensions with several of its NBA studio commentators: Michael Wilbon, Jalen Roe, Chiney Ogwumike, Zach Lowe, Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst.
Formula 1 is in the United States this weekend for the second and final time this year. ABC will have a live telecast of the Formula 1 Aramco United States Grand Prix on Sunday, October 23, with coverage from Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, beginning at 1:30p. The race starts at 3p. ESPN will surround the race telecast with programming and content across platforms including the on-site presence of “SportsCenter” along with social media and digital content that will include a live preview show on race day and a golf ball driving contest between F1 drivers and players from the PGA TOUR and LPGA.

NBCUniversal Formats has signed a deal with Munich-based production company SEO Entertainment to bring an adaptation of hit Korean entertainment format “Drive Thru-Oke” to Germany. The German adaptation, titled “Music Drive In,” will be hosted by three German music stars, and will launch early next year on the free to air entertainment channel RTLZWEI.
UK’s Channel 4 is launching digital-first Channel 4.0 on October 26. “Channel 4.0 marks a new era for Channel 4 and is another significant piece of the Future4 strategy,” said Head of Digital Commissioning Sacha Khari. “Not only will Channel 4.0 be a place where established stars come to spread joy, genius and a bit of chaos, we’ll be scouting for the next generation of talent – creating opportunity both in front and behind the camera.”
Studiocanal has renewed a global deal with Nickelodeon who will board Season 3 of hit CG-animated series “The Adventures of Paddington.”
Banijay Rights announced ITV in the UK has acquired “Bali 2002,” the four-part drama that explores the everyday heroes directly impacted by the terrorist attacks on the Indonesian island 20 years ago. The drama will air on new streaming service ITVX next year.
Electric Entertainment’s AVOD channel and App, ElectricNOW, will soon be available internationally. The worldwide roll-out strategy begins with Australia in early November.
Flying Bark Productions announced production of “200% Wolf,” a sequel to the feature film, “100% Wolf.” The film will be distributed across Australia by Studiocanal while Studio 100 Film is managing international sales.
Kitchen Factory Productions, Chef Cyril Lignac, producer Matthieu Jean-Toscani and Studio Ramsay Global announced the French format acquisition of the competition series “Next Level Chef.”
“Brazil Avenue,” an adaptation of Globo’s telenovela, will arrive in Japan through a deal with NHK Enterprises, business arm of the group of NHK, Japan’s public broadcaster.
