Gerard Depardieu (Life of Pi) landed the lead in Netflix’s Marseille, the first French original series from the streaming service. Eight episodes are expected to hit the streaming service in early 2016.
 
Sex education activist and YouTube celeb Laci Green (1.3 million subscribers) returned to MTV (other) for a third, 13-episode season of Braless, live on MTV’s short-form digital content studio platform. The previous seasons racked up more than 4.9 million YT views and tackled issues such as, “Why is Zero a Size Tho?” “Should All Bathrooms Be Gender Neutral?” and “Is Bob’s Burgers A Feminist Masterpiece?”
 
Facebook’s next move will put music videos in users’ Newsfeeds. According to the New York Times, FB is in talks with record labels to license music videos on the social network. The exchange would allow labels to choose the featured videos; FB would share ad revenue. FB delivers over four billion video views a day.

’s Maker Studios acquired start-up Instafluence as a way to connect social influencers with advertisers. Instafluence reports 10,000 sponsored posts on popular networks, resulting in more than 150 million engagements for brands including PacSun, Crossmedia and VH1.
 
Immersive video technology company Adventr teamed up with Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Day Campaign to release a music video for the cause and a petition. With Ed Sheeran, Paul McCartney, Hugh Jackman, Jamie Cullum, Professor Green and others behind the vids’ vocals, the campaign has already hit 36 million views and more than one million likes, comments and shares. Adventr is also launching a subscription service with both free and premium options; users can sign up for the Jamie Oliver Food Revolution Day Special for $9.99/month.

The breakdown: Tubular Co-Founder and Vice President of Enterprise Allison Stern told Cynopsis, “MTV2 debuts on this month’s list at number one, boosted significantly by two Wild ‘N Out clips that amassed more than five million views between them. The other debut is TNT, which garnered more than three million views on its trailer and teaser for The Last Ship. One large trend we see this month is a dip in the number of new “Media and Entertainment” brands launching on YouTube this is likely due to the summer months traditionally being a little slower for new content. We expect this to pick up in a few months as fall shows begin their promotion.”

EXECUTIVE MOVES

WPP media agency MEC promoted Peter Vogel, previously CEO of MEC Australia, to a regional role as CEO of MEC Asia Pacific. Peter joins MEC’s Global Executive Committee and will be relocating to MEC Hong Kong. In addition, MEC Australia and New Zealand appointed James Hier as CEO. Hier joined MEC in Australia five years ago.
