CYNOPSIS
06.17.15

Good morning. It’s Wednesday June 17, 2015, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Tonight’s Premieres:
MTV2: Not Exactly News at 11:30p
SundanceTV: Deutschland 83 at 11p

Tonight’s Finale:
BBC America: Ripper Street at 10p

What does Donald Trump’s presidential bid, announced Tuesday, mean for his TV roles?  NBC is taking a wait-and-see stance with Celebrity Apprentice, not currently airing but renewed for season 15. “We will re-evaluate Trump’s role as host of Celebrity Apprentice should it become necessary, as we are committed to his franchise,” said the network. It’s a different story over at Fox & Friends. Fox News Channel said the real estate mogul/reality star’s weekly appearances will be suspended while he’s working the campaign trail. No hard feelings there – Trump’s first post-announcement interview went to FNC’s Bill O’Reilly.

IN THE NEWS

In an ad they call “the most pathetic instance of self-promotion ever,” Episodes creators David Crane and Jeffrey Klarik submitted and paid for a hand-written note to trade papers asking for Emmy consideration for their Showtime comedy, which ended its fourth season three month ago. “We are very proud of our cast and the work they did, and we wanted to remind you about it before you vote,” said the letter. “We probably should have spent the money on therapy,” admitted Crane and Klarik of the maneuver, “but clearly therapy hasn’t helped us, so we went with the ad.”

Showtime renewed drama Penny Dreadful for a third season, once again shooting on location in Dublin, and slated for a 2016 debut. Season two airs Sundays at 10p, headed for a July 5 finale.

Debbie Matenopoulos, one of the original co-hosts on The View, is replacing Thea Andrews on The Insider, effective July 6. Matenopoulos, who joined the entertainment newsmag as a special correspondent in May, will host with Louis Aguirre. “She has great chemistry with Louis and the team,” said exec producer Brad Bessey. “She’s down-to-earth, plugged into celebrity news and pop culture, has a vibrant personality and is a true industry insider.”

Mireya Villarreal has been named a CBS News Correspondent and Weijia Jiang a Correspondent for CBS Newspath, the network’s 24-hour television newsgathering service for CBS stations and broadcasters. Villarreal joins CBS News from KTVT-TV in Dallas, where she was a reporter. Jiang was part of the team at NYC’s WCBS-TV that won a regional Emmy award for coverage of Superstorm Sandy.

CBS Summer Preview, the net’s first digital special focused on original summer programming, offers a 10-minute sneak peek at shows including drama Zoo, returning event series Under the Dome and Extant and reality show Big Brother as well as highlights from The Late Late Show with James Corden. Hosted by Brother host Julie Chen, the special is available on demand online, on mobile devices and on TV through Tuesday, July 14.

So Donald Trump wants to be president. Is the Celebrity Apprentice star the best TV personality for the job? Let us know in the new Cynopsis poll.

FUN OF YOUR BUSINESS

From office parties, to office pranks, we asked our readers to tell us, "What’s the most fun you have ever had at work." To the chagrin of some employers, there seems to be a lot of fun out there and here is what some of you had to say…

  • There was one episode where I had to sing a song in Spanish. It was great fun. In this case I was doing the song and trying to pretend I was a trumpet. Have you ever pretended you’re a trumpet? Not easy. Rita Moreno, Actress, Nina’s World, Sprout
  • We have fun all the time. There’s lots of falling, lots of lines messing up. And I love the cast – they’re just the bomb diggity. Especially [co-stars] Kadeem [Hardison] and Tammy [Townsend]–they’re older but they always hang out with us. They’re like teenagers. Zendaya, Actress, K.C. Undercover, Disney Channel
  • My business partner Matt Senreich and I have had the same desks from Cost Plus World Market for 10 years. We like to face each other and we still face each other, even though now we could have our own offices. Seth Green, Actor, Producer, Writer and Director, SuperMansion, Crackle
  • Every tape night was a party. My six years there was all love, all fun. Alfonso Ribeiro, Actor, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air
  • It’s hard to pick one moment but I will always remember Deena Katz [casting producer for Dancing With the Stars] telling me, "This is the last time you have to do the quick step!" Candace Cameron Bure, Actress, Full House
  • While working for Entertainment Tonight I got the opportunity to swim with dolphins and feed sharks. Mark Steines, host of Hallmark Channel’s Home & Family
  • For me… September 1979, when I premiered on WTMJ-TV, Milwaukee as a morning TV talk show co-host. I was on a remote. In a hot tub. With 3 of Milwaukee’s finest. I thought, "This is work?" For about 9 months, yeah, it was. Gary Lico, Proprietor, LILOLME.TV
  • I was Advertising Director for Club Med for eight years. Enough said! Anthony Salerno, VP, Associate Managing Director, Horizon Media.

If you had a secret power what would it be? Would you be invisible, super strong or able to fly? For next week’s question let us know "If you had a magic power what would it be and why?" Join in the fun, please send your response today to [email protected].
