Good morning. It’s Thursday, May 22, 2014, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

CBS Sports elevated Tracy Wolfson to The NFL on CBS’s new lead game reporter. Wolfson has served as CBS Sports’ lead college football reporter for the Network’s coverage of the Southeastern Conference for the past 10 years, but will now become part of the Thursday Night Football crew, joining the lead announce team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms as lead reporter on all TNF games on CBS and NFL Network as well as select Sunday games. She previously worked as a reporter for select NFL games, including last year’s AFC Wild Card, Divisional and Championship games, as well as coverage of the 2013 Super Bowl and has served as lead reporter for CBS Sports’ coverage of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship and Final Four since 2009.

ON THE AIR

Game 2 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals was ESPN’s third-highest rated ever for Game 2 of a conference finals, delivering a 5.9 overnight rating, according to Nielsen. That marks a 55% spike from last year’s Game 2 on the channel which featured a Western Conference matchup between the Spurs and Grizzlies. Locally, the telecast saw a 24.4 rating in Miami, making it the second-highest rated NBA postseason game on ESPN ever in the market and a 19.8 in Indianapolis.

Meanwhile, the 2014 NBA Draft Lottery on ESPN delivered its highest rating of all time, marking a 2.9 overnight rating, up 26% from year ago numbers.

Golf Channel’s Notah Begay rejoins the network next week after a month’s absence following a heart attack. He will serve as an on-course reporter for the network’s coverage of the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships, running Monday, May 26 – Wednesday, May 28. "The whole experience was a bit surreal, but it’s given me a new perspective on my health and I feel even more motivated to use my foundation to help educate kids about their own health and make a positive difference in their lives," he said.

Nickelodeon unveiled nominees and categories for the first-ever Kids’ Choice Sports Awards show, which will be hosted and executive produced by Michael Strahan and telecast on July 17 at 8p. Beginning June 12, kids vote in 15 categories at Nick.com/sports with athletes that include: Carmelo Anthony, Tom Brady, Gabby Douglas, Kevin Durant, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Gracie Gold, LeBron James, Derek Jeter, Marshawn Lynch, Peyton Manning, Candace Parker, and more. Presenting sponsor will be SUBWAY restaurants with Mattel BOOMco on as associate sponsor.
