NBC scored its most dominant ratings win for a non-Olympic week in people-meter history the week of January 29, aided by its biggest nightlong margins in the 30-year history of Nielsen’s sample from Sunday’s Super Bowl coverage and post-game telecast of This Is Us. With an average 23.1 million viewers, it was NBC’s most-watched in-season week in 8 years, since the Vancouver Winter Olympics, and most-watched non-Olympic week, since the 1998 Super Bowl.
A tip of the fedora to The Real Housewives of Atlanta, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, The Real Housewives of New Jersey and Vanderpump Rules, leading Bravo to rank #3 in primetime among all cable entertainment networks in P18-49 and P25-54 in January, the network’s highest January ranking ever in each demo.
An investigation into the death in 1981 of Natalie Wood delivered CBS’ 48 Hours its largest audience since April 2016, with 5.28 million viewers and a 1.0/3 rating among A25-54. It was Saturday’s #1 program with viewers, according to Nielsen Live+SD ratings for February 3.
Surrounding the release of the January jobs report and a historic market sell-off, Fox Business Network delivered 268,000 total viewers in Business Day the week of January 29. In Total Day, FBN scored 201,000 viewers.
With PUT levels down ahead of the February sweep, the majority of first-run syndicated strips were down from the week prior, with none of the top 15 talk show eking out an increase the week ending January 28. Live with Kelly (2.3) and Ryan and Maury (1.5) both dipped 12%. Family Feud (unchanged at 7.4) was the only game show not seeing a drop.
The season finale of NBC’s Better Late Than Never scored a season high 1.1 rating among A18-49, up +20% versus the week prior, and 5.3 million viewers.
UniMas delivered a record week performance in the current season among A18-49 and A18-34 with double-digit week-to-week audience gains during primetime among Total Viewers 2+ (+16% to 821,000), A18-49 (+32% to 381,000) and A18-34 (+37% to 160,000).
HGTV’s Flip or Flop Nashville averaged a .62 rating among P25-54 on Thursday, up +35% versus the time slot’s 6-week average. The show has attracted over 5 million total viewers since premiering on January 18.

IN MEMORIAM
Veteran character actor John Mahoney died February 4 after a brief illness. He was 77. Mahoney, a member of the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago for 39 years, was best known to TV audiences for his role as Martin Crane on Frasier. “I’ve not known a kinder man nor more brilliant actor,” tweeted Frasier casting director Jeff Greenberg.
