Cynopsis: Kids!
10/11/10

Good morning. It’s Monday, October 11, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Warner Bros. delivered the news on Friday that it would Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows  Part 1 in 2D, in both conventional and Imax theaters, and not a 3D version of the movie as had been slated.  The studio plan was to convert the movie into 3D in post production for its release, but explained: “Despite everyone’s best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality.  We do not want to disappoint fans who have long anticipated the conclusion of this extraordinary journey, and to that end, we are releasing our film day-and-date on November 19, 2010, as planned.”  Moving forward the studio will release Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows  Part 2 in both 2D and 3D formats to regular and Imax theaters on July 15, 2011 as planned.  Based on fans I’ve spoken to and many comments online, it doesn’t seem like Potter fans really care much about 3D; they’re in it for the story.  What remains to be seen is if and when Warner Bros. will ever release Part 1 in 3D, perhaps there will be a special movie theater 3D event featuring Part-1 and Part-2.

Ape Entertainment attended New York Comic-Con where they unveiled new comic book deals:

  • Ape enters into a deal with American Greetings Properties to publish comic books based on Strawberry Shortcake.  The Strawberry Shortcake comic books will be published under Ape’s all-ages imprint, Kizoic, and will be available in early 2011 with scratch and sniff covers.
  • Under a new deal with Classic Media, Ape Entertainment will re-imagine the cartoon and comic book versions of Richie Rich in a new comic series for today’s audiences. Richie Rich will still expect him to travel the world on adventures with his friends, including updated Irona and Cadbury, and he will also use his funds and character to helps people too.  The new Richie Rich comics will also be published under Ape’s Kizoic imprint and debut in early 2011.

Atlantyca Entertainment inks foreign language deals for two of book series:

  • Atlantyca enters into a deal with Spanish-language publisher Alfaguara to publish two new Code Lyoko book titles, Code Lyoko 3: The Return of the Phoenix and Code Lyoko 4: The Army of Noting, in Spanish throughout Spain and Spanish-speaking countries.  Earlier this year Alfaguara released the first two Spanish-language versions of the Cody Lyoko books.
  • Atlantyca grants Japanese publisher Gakken the Japanese-language rights to the tween-targeted Ulysses Moore mystery/adventure book series by author Pierdomenico Baccalario, which is published in Italy by Edizioni Piemme.  Gakken will release the entire six-book Ulysses Moore series in Japan beginning this month.
