DreamWorks Animation unveils plans for Me and My Shadow, a new original mixed CG and traditional animated feature film, which it will release in March 2013. The story revolves around Stanley Grubb, the most boring human ever, and Shadow Stan, his frustrated shadow who wants excitement. When Shadow Stan is pushed to the edge, he breaks the rules of shadowdom, which is to follow, and takes control of Stanley. Mark Dindal (Chicken Little, The Emperor’s New Groove) will Direct the movie, which will be produced by Melissa Cobb (Kung Fu Panda, Kung Fu Panda 2) and Teresa Cheng (Shrek Forever After, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron). Shane Prigmore (Coraline, Lord of the Rings) will serve as Head of Story and Scott Wills (Monsters vs. Aliens, Ren & Stimpy) and Raymond Zibach (Kung Fu Panda, The Road to El Dorado) as Production Designers. Nick Fletcher (Shrek Forever After, The Prince of Egypt) is the Editor on the movie. The screenplay for Me and My Shadow, which was originally penned by both Steve Bencich and Ron Friedman (Chicken Little, Open Season), is being revised by writing team Tom Astle and Matt Ember (Get Smart).
Cirque du Soleil is set to head to movie theaters in several 3D projects with partners James Cameron (Titanic, Avatar), and Andrew Adamson (the first two Shrek and Narnia movies), in association with Reel FX Entertainment are partnering on these 3D movies. The first movie (title TBD) features original footage within a story penned by Adamson. Cameron will serve as Executive Producer, and has himself been shooting at least some of the 3D footage for the movie with his 3D partner Vince Pace. Reel FX Entertainment, headed by Ed Jones and Cary Granat, is the production partner along with Cirque du Soleil Images. The premise is described this way: “There are worlds beyond dreams, illusion and imagination, where human beings are capable of anything. Where love rules, and everything your heart yearns for is beautifully, incredibly real.” There is no release date for the movie as of now.

Disney Studios Home Entertainment will release Bambi Diamond Edition on Blu-ray in HD on March 1, 2011. The Bambi Diamond Edition will be available as a 2-Disc Disney Combo Pack (Blu-ray plus DVD), an HD movie download, and a standard definition movie download. The standard definition DVD version of Bambi will be available on April 19, 2011. Additionally, with the Bambi Diamond Edition release, Disney introduces its new “Second Screen” technology, which allows viewers to interact with film content via multiple media platforms. Fans can download the new Disney Second Screen App onto an internet connected computer or iPad and then synching it to the movie, allows users to take part with interactive elements, such as animated flipbooks, galleries, photos, trivia, among other things.
BBC Worldwide Channels enters into a deal British Airways (BA) beginning this month. BA’s in-flight entertainment system now includes programming from BBC Entertainment, BBC Lifestyle, BBC Knowledge, and the preschool channel CBeebies. The CBeebies in-flight offering will feature shows from the channel, as well as specially produced wrap-around segments by on-air hosts Sid Sloane and Andy Day. Among the channel’s preschool shows featured in-flight are Charlie and Lola, In the Night Garden, Penelope K, by the way and ZingZillas, as well as The Large Family, Little Big Cat, and Poetry Pie.

Mattel acquires two new game properties, the exclusive, worldwide rights to the card game Phase 10, a rummy style card game, from Fundex games, and the rights to iMAGiNiff, an adult-targeted party game of opinions, from Blue Opal Australia. The Phase 10 game portfolio includes Phase 10 Card Game/Phase 10 Masters Card Game, Phase 10 Dice Game, and Phase 10 Twist Game.
American Greetings Properties (AGP) inks a license deal with Italy’s Cartorama to create a new line of Care Bears and Twisted Whiskers branded back-to-school products. The product line will feature Care Bears and twisted Whiskers notebooks and folders, agendas, plush gifts, backpacks, and other stationery items. Additionally, Cartorama will launch two separate Care Bears programs for kids and teens, as well as a line of Care Bears greeting cards in 2011.
One Entertainment has been awarded the exclusive North American master licensing rights for three international soccer clubs, Manchester United, F.C. Barcelona and Juventus. Under these multi-year deals, One Entertainment will have the right to license, market, and promote club-branded merchandise and product collections featuring the clubs’ respective logos and creative assets. One Entertainment plans to develop a range of consumer products, including apparel, novelty items, accessories, toys and games, food and beverage, and stationery.
Oceanhouse Media makes two of its interactive digital kid’s book apps, Dr. Seuss’ The Cat In The Hat and How The Grinch Stole Christmas! ($3.99/each), for Android 2.1 (and higher) devices. Oceanhouse previously introduced both titles as iOS apps (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad).
