IN THE NEWS

Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is teaming with Pat Rothfuss, author of The Kingkiller Chronicle book trilogy, to serve as creative producer of feature film and TV series adaptations of the fantasy franchise. There’s an option to be involved in future stage productions. Miranda is expected to compose the original music and songs, while Rothfuss is an EP for both film and TV. The plan is for Lionsgate, who landed the rights in fall 2015, to develop and produce the feature film franchise based on the trilogy, the first movie, and a TV drama that expands the world outside the books.

Derek Hough and NE-YO were added as judges for NBC‘s new dance competition series World of Dance. The pair join Jennifer Lopez for the 10-episode series from Universal Television Alternative Studio and Nuyorican Productions. The show gives dancers a platform to showcase their talents and the opportunity to receive a grand prize of a cool $1 million.

Add Amazon and executives from ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC to the list of those skipping the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour. The streamer has opted to join Netflix and Starz in sitting out the TCA’s January session. The Big Four have eliminated executive panels from their day-long panels, reportedly to focus on midseason programming.

Scandal released new art and a new tagline – "the balance of power is about to shift" – on Tuesday, giving another clue to its Season 6 premiere. Series returns on Thursday, January 19 at 9p. Season 5 ended with the show’s presidential candidates announcing their running mates.

Darren Criss will give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at all things Hairspray Live! and check in on live viewing parties around the country during the 3-hour production airing Wednesday, December 7 at 8p on NBC. Criss will deliver live updates of the activities backstage, while serving as host of a multi-camera production on Facebook Live.

BBC America airs the BBC Music Awards on Wednesday, December 14 at 10p. The show explores the past twelve months in music with headline performances from some of 2016’s best-loved artists and features some of the year’s best-selling songs.
