ATSC 3.0: ATSC 3.0 is a next-generation broadcast standard and the television industry’s response to consumers’ desire to watch content anywhere, anytime and on any device. The Advanced Television Systems Commission is developing advanced transmission and video/audio coding techniques, including the opportunity for terrestrial broadcasters to send hybrid content services to fixed and mobile receivers seamlessly – combining both over-the-air transmission and broadband delivery.

Facebook introduced a new kind of ad yesterday that allows advertisers to turn their Messenger bots into ad bots. Sponsored messages can contain one link and one photo, and can be displayed only to people who “have an open, existing conversation with” a brand, said Facebook. “We believe that the combination of driving people from News Feed into a Messenger experience, and having an additional opportunity to re-engage with sponsored messages is a game changer,” said David Marcus, vice president and head of Facebook Messenger.
A survey conducted in October with advertiser and agency executives found that the Internet of Things (IoT) was deemed the most important of four technologies queried, MediaPost reports. IoT finished ahead of “conversational marketing,” artificial intelligence and virtual reality/augmented reality. Seventy-four percent of respondents said IoT was at least somewhat important, while 24% said it was very important. Only 6% said it was not important.
Following beta testing with such brands as BMW and Major League Soccer, the Undertone division of Perion Network is rolling out its Expandable Teaser ad format. The mobile format animates a teaser ad above the content of a website that expands when clicked on, generating an overlay experience with a persistent and non-distracting presence on the page. When prompted, it becomes an expanded canvas for brands to create engaging experiences. Undertone says Expandable Teaser ads are aligned with the Internet Advertising Bureau’s LEAN Principles.

Sony’s PlayStation Vue is pulling all Viacom-owned networks – including MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and VH1 – from the service on Friday. “As part of our ongoing evaluation of the PlayStation Vue offering, we have determined that removing the bundle of channels from Viacom is the best way for us to continue to offer the most compelling value to our fans,” said the company’s blog. Vote.”…Royal Jordanian airlines tweeted an ad on Election Day: “Just in case he wins… Travel to the US while you’re still allowed to!”, with fares to Chicago, Detroit and New York. During his campaign, Donald Trump had called for ban on Muslims entering the U.S.
The ListenFirst Television Interest (TVI) Rating (TM) is a standardized measurement of the most buzzed-about TV programs on linear TV and streaming services. A complement to ListenFirst’s other syndicated data products (such as the ListenFirst Digital Audience Rating – TV), the metrics included in the rating capture organic actions that are largely unaffected by paid media. Programs that surface on the TVI leaderboards are the most hashtagged on Facebook, Google+, and Tumblr, as well as most searched for on Wikipedia (used as a proxy for organic search volume).
