IN THE NEWS

Halloween weekend just got spookier. In a U.S. television first, Destination America is set to air the first live exorcism. Exorcism: Live! visits the St. Louis house, inspiration for 1973’s The Exorcist, where the ritual was performed on Roland Doe in 1949. The cast of Ghost Asylum and world-renowned psychic medium Chip Coffey are part of the fun on Friday, October 30 at 9p.

Investigation Discovery sheds new light on infamous and controversial cases in Barbara Walters Presents American Scandals, launching Monday, November 2 at 10p. Featured stories include Jean Harris, Mark David Chapman and Erik and Lyle Menendez. “There is still enormous interest in these sensational scandals,” said Walters. Series premieres Monday, November 2 at 10p.

Because viewers can’t get enough of all things shark, Discovery is introducing Shweekend, a special weekend of all-new Shark Week content on Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30. Programming includes  MythBusters vs. Jaws (wt), Shark Alley (wt), Air Jaws: Ring of Death (wt) and Still Alive: Shark Surprise.

Discovery Networks Latin America/U.S. Hispanic and American Heroes Channel have teamed to present Castro: The World’s Most Watched Man (wt). One-hour doc about the life of Fidel is slated to premiere on AHC in 4Q 2015 and on Discovery Networks International’s factual channels in more than 220 countries and territories this fall. “The timely news of Cuba and the U.S. restoring relations, along with Castro’s deteriorating health conditions, opens up a momentous opportunity for us to document this iconic and unfolding story,” said Kevin Bennett, EVP and general manager of American Heroes Channel. Castro… a hero? “AHC is dedicated to telling the stories of not just heroes but all of history’s most legendary characters,” added Bennett.

Who better to host a month full of “pawesome” programming than animal advocate Betty White? The beloved actress will be featured in Discovery Family Channel promos throughout August during a month-long dog-themed programming event. It all begins Saturday, August 1 with 101 Dalmations at 8p.

Candace Cameron Bure says she’s flattered that she’s being considered for a co-host spot on ABC talker The View, but serving on the panel is “not easy,” the Fuller House star admitted to Cynopsis at TCA. “It’s a difficult show to do because no matter where you stand or what your opinion is, you’re always going to have people who don’t like you.” Bure would fill one of the spots left open by Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace, out after one season.

El Rey chairman and founder Robert Rodriguez and vice chair Scott Sassa announced at TCA that Michael Mann (Ali) and George Miller (Mad Max) will sit down for the next two installments of El Rey Network Presents: The Director’s Chair, Mann on Sunday, August 9 at 8p and Miller on August 30.
