With Turner’s turn in the upfront spotlight, the company hit the stage by announcing a multi-year extension for the Inside the NBA studio team. The show will now see host Ernie Johnson and analysts Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O’Neal locked in for the long haul. "We truly believe Inside the NBA is among the best studio shows of all time and a large part of its success is due to the unrivaled chemistry between Ernie, Charles, Kenny and Shaquille," said Lenny Daniels, president of Turner Sports. "We’re looking forward to continuing the creativity and pioneering spirit behind the show for a very long time."
 
In addition, Turner Sports also announced the launch of The Dunk King, described as a reality competition series set to premiere on TNT during the network’s exclusive coverage of the 2016 NBA Western Conference Finals
. According to the company, “the definitive dunk competition show will feature top dunkers as they take center stage to showcase their best dunks in a contest for bragging rights and a cash prize of $100,000.” The final "Dunk Off" will take place live during TNT’s first-ever presentation of the NBA Awards Show, which is set to air after the completion of the 2016 NBA Playoffs.

FOX Sports unveiled its five broadcast teams slated to call games at next month’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, set to kick off on June 6. Broadcast pairings are set to include: Glenn Davis/Christine Latham; JP Dellacamera/Cat Whitehill/Tony DiCicco; Jenn Hildreth/Kyndra de St. Aubin; Justin Kutcher/Aly Wagner; and John Strong/Danielle Slaton. In addition, Angela Hucles will also analyze games during the tournament. The U.S. Women’s National Team has three matches in the Group Stage, and Dellacamera, Whitehill and DiCicco set to call each one beginning June 8 at 7:30p on FOX Sports 1 against Australia.

CBS’ presentation to advertisers yesterday reaffirmed the network’s ties to the NFL as the channel touted the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl on Feb. 7. The showcase saw Jim Nantz and Jim Brown bring eight Super Bowl MVPs, including Roger Staubach, Franco Harris, Joe Namath and Emmett Smith to the stage, as CBS Corp. CEO Les Moonves reminded media buyers that the big game will serve as the 19th time CBS has broadcast the event, and noted that CBS was the only network with two NFL packages.

ESPN Deportes’ turn at the upfront made a pitch spotlighting upgrades to the network’s digital video offerings, original content lineup and diverse programming. 2016 will see the channel carry live events that include MLB, Monday Night Football, NFL Wildcard, NBA (including The Finals), College Football Playoff, UEFA Champions League (including the final), UEFA Super Cup, UEFA Europa League (including the final), La Liga’s Copa del Rey Final and Supercopa, select European FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, and the most anticipated soccer event of the year, the 2016 UEFA European Championship. In addition, as part of ESPN’s initial agreement with DISH, ESPN Deportes will launch soon on Sling TV as part of the Deportes Extra add-on package. The network will be launching Quick Hits, a collection of short-form digital videos. The network will also see new studios in the near future, with expansion and enhancement of its studio capabilities in Bristol, Los Angeles, Miami and Mexico City, which will be opening it its new facilities later this year.

NBC Sports Group offers 6.5 hours of coverage of the 140th running of the Preakness Stakes as Kentucky Derby winner American Pharoah looks to continue the run for the Triple Crown. For the first time since 2009, the top three finishers in the Kentucky Derby  American Pharoah, Firing Line, and Dortmund  return to compete in the Preakness with coverage starting Friday at 3p on NBCSN and the race taking place Saturday at 4:30p on NBC. Coverage of the race features hosts Bob Costas and Tom Hammond along with analysts Randy Moss and Jerry Bailey. Fans can also access a “social center” housed on NBCSports.com/Preakness to view social media content from Instagram, Twitter and Vine through various streams including horse racing experts, horses a photos-only section and Vine videos. Preakness All-Access aggregates what’s trending around the race and what’s hot in the social world and feature on-air integration of live tweets from celebrities, horse racing experts and @NBCSN along with a trending bar.

ESPN is tapping the services of hip-hop group Mobb Deep to create a special production open for NBA Countdown  ESPN’s NBA pre-game studio show. The opening will debut during pre-game coverage of the 2015 NBA Western Conference Finals and feature Mobb Deep producing a customized NBA remix of their track Survival Of The Fittest.

Speaking of golf, CBS serves up a look at the young talent is stepping into the spotlight on the PGA TOUR on Sunday at 2p. PGA TOUR 2015: In the Spotlight presented by Mercedes-Benz will feature Jordan Spieth, Martin Kaymer, Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka as well as Carlos Ortiz.

The NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2016 and winner of the Landmark Award for Outstanding Contributions to NASCAR will be announced on NBCSN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio and NASCAR.com  on May 20 at 6p. The five NASCAR Hall of Fame inductees will be selected from the list of 20 nominees, and the second Landmark Award recipient will be chosen from the list of five nominees.

Big news for the Pac-12 Conference, which is partnering with Alibaba Group Holding Limited to debut a historic Pac-12 China Game featuring the Washington Huskies and Texas Longhorns on Nov. 14. The game and the two-year partnership with Alibaba Group represent a first for sports in China and makes the Pac-12 will become the first U.S. sports league to host a regular season contest in China. NFL Players Inc. locked in seven new licensing agreements to expand its presence in growing licensing areas such as mobile and digital product and collegiate co-branded merchandise. Among the new NFLPI licensees are Team Spirit Store, Identity Games, NeonMob, Freaker USA, Fan Health Network, Just Be Friends and Zapexa. The news comes on the heels of NFLPI announcing the Top 50 Player Sales list for the 2015 fiscal year that comprised all officially licensed products sold by more than 80 NFLPI licensees via online and traditional retail outlets, and with overall sales exceeding $1.4 billion during the year.

Dentsu Sports is expanding its reach, announcing a deal last week to nab a third of sports agency Athletes First. Forbes Magazine lists Athletes First as the eighth most valuable sports agency in the world and the most valuable (tied) sports agency which focuses primarily on football. Dentsu will now look to further expand Athletes First’s agency business and the diversification of its sports representation, sports marketing and consulting business in both the US and internationally.

SendtoNews reports 5.5 million video views during THE PLAYERS Championship week from May 5 to 11 through its News Partnership Network. Overall, the SendtoNews network, which includes hundreds of publishers and newspaper.coms throughout North America, receives more than 65 million monthly views.

Golf Channel’s GolfAdvisor.com saw a 20% rise in weekly traffic during last week’s PLAYERS Championship. Activity on Golf Channel’s GolfAdvisor.com during the week of May 4 was up for both unique visits and page views over the previous week, which included increases via tablets (+19% / +39%) and mobile devices (+28% / +39%).

NEXTVR added a heavyweight to its advisory board, with Peter Guber joining as chair, according to Variety. “This is about emotional engagement,” Guber said in the report. “This isn’t just about viewing, this is about being. I don’t think it replaces or cannibalizes the live experience at the concert or at the American Music Awards or at Dodger Stadium. I don’t think it does that at all. I think it opens a whole new audience up, and a whole new experience for a global audience.”

ESPN unveiled another round of promotion, upping Burke Magnus, Rosalyn Durant and Tina Thornton to new roles with the company in the production division. Meanwhile Conner Schell, John Dahl and Libby Geist nabbed new positions on the content team. Burke Magnus becomes Executive Vice President, Programming & Scheduling where, in addition to his current acquisition responsibilities, the content strategy and scheduling functions will report now to him. Durant takes on the role of Senior Vice President, College Networks and will move to Charlotte to oversee the SEC and Longhorn Networks & ESPNU. Thornton becomes Senior Vice President, Production and Multimedia Sponsorship Integration and Management Operations. On the content side, Connor Schell has been named Senior Vice President, Executive Producer ESPN Films and Original Content; Libby Geist becomes Vice President, ESPN Films and Original Projects; and Dahl will now be Vice President and Executive Producer, ESPN Films and Original Content.

Electronic Arts has its new Madden cover athlete. The company and ESPN announced that New York Giants Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will become the face of Madden NFL 16 a result of fan voting. “Odell Beckham Jr. is a true playmaker and a perfect fit for this year’s game,” said Randy Chase, Senior Director of Marketing for EA SPORTS. “He’s an unstoppable force out on the field, and the Madden NFL 16 cover is further vindication that the fans believe he’s a player to watch in the coming years.” EA also released a first look video for Madden NFL 16 showcasing each of the playmakers featured in the Cover Vote.
