Cynopsis: Kids!
03/02/10

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, March 2, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Virgin Media inks a deal with Turner Broadcasting to make Turner’s preschool-targeted TV channel Cartoonito available to its cable subscribers in the UK.  Under the deal Virgin Media will also offer some of Cartoonito’s shows via its on-demand service as well as securing rights for Turner Broadcasting content to be available both online and on mobile phones.  Cartoonito, which features series including Fireman Sam, Care Bears and Hi-5, will be included in the line-up of channels available to customers on Virgin Media ‘L’ or ‘XL’ TV pack from this April. Virgin Media will offer additional Turner programming on-demand including Cartoonito shows such as Go And … and Cartoonito Karaoke, in addition to from content from Cartoon Network and Boomerang.  Virgin Media also picks up rights to offer Turner’s content online and via mobile, including Cartoon Network’s Ben 10 and Boomerang’s Scooby Doo, and new content from Cartoonito.  In the mobile arena, Virgin will provide customers with mobile versions of shows from Cartoon Network and Boomerang, in addition to simulcast news from CNN.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Ben Stiller confirms that plans are underway on a Zoolander (PG-13) sequel, per MTV.  Paramount released Zoolander in 2001.  Stiller says that he is working with writer Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder, Iron Man 2) and that it takes place 10-years after the first movie, and Derek and Hansel have been all but forgotten  so they’ll have to re-create themselves.  Stiller also added that if Will Ferrell will reprise his role as the evil Mugatu, then the character will be back.

MORE KIDS STUFF

DreamWorks Animation SKG‘s new animated movie Shrek Forever After in 3D will have the honor of opening the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival in NYC on April 21, 2010, presented by American Express.  The final chapter in the Shrek movie series, Paramount will release Shrek Forever After nationwide on May 21, 2010.  Shrek Forever After is directed by Mike Mitchell and again stars the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas.

Cartoon Network will be totally “algebraic” when it premieres its new original animated series Adventure Time with Finn & Jake on Monday, April 5, 2010 at 8p.  Created by Pendleton Ward, Adventure Time with Finn & Jake is produced in partnership with Frederator Studios with Fred Seibert serving as Executive Producer.  The first season features special guest voice appearances by Henry Rollins, Mark Hamill, George Takei, Lou Ferrigno and Erik Estrada.  Clips of the series and downloads can be found at www.itsadventuretime.com, where fans can also play a new online game Adventure Time: Righteous Quest from March 8.

In other Cartoon Network news, this week marks the launch of the new flash animated comedy-action series Hero: 108 (52×11) on Cartoon Network in the US and UK.  The series is airing weekdays at 7a in the US and 4p in the UK.  The Hero: 108 series is a co-production of Gamania, Moonscoop and Cartoon Network International. Also involved in the co-production is Telegael Teo (Ireland).  There is also a Hero: 108 massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG), developed by RedGate Games, a unit of online game publisher Gamania Digital Entertainment. Playmates Toys holds the master toy license for Hero: 108 and plans to launch products this year around the world.

PorchLight Entertainment acquires the worldwide distribution rights to the tween/teen-targeted animated feature Los Campeones de la Lucha Libre (The Champions of Lucha Libre).  Produced by Fwak! Animation and BounceyNet, Inc., the Mexican wrestling themed 72-minute movie was released theatrically in Mexico in 2008.  PorchLight will showcase the movie at MIPTV for theatrical, broadcast and home entertainment rights worldwide.  The movie is available in English and Spanish.  Los Campeones de la Lucha Libre was created by Fwak! Animation’s founders Eddie Mort and Lili Chin, who also created the animated TV series ¡Mucha Lucha!, which was produced by Warner Bros Animation.
