Cynopsis: Kids!
07/17/12

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, July 17, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.

Splatalot (www.splatalot.com), a physical game show, will make its US debut tonight on Nickelodeon with two back-to-back episodes at 7:30p. Nickelodeon acquired the license for the first season of Splatalot (26×30) from Distribution360. Targeted to Kids/Tweens 8-12, Splatalot is produced by marblemedia. Hosted by Jason Agnew and Matt Chin, each episode features a new group of 12 teen contestants, called Attackers, competing in three comedic rounds: Cross the Moat, Escape the Stockade and Capture the Crown. The Defenders of Splatalot, a group of nine costumed warriors, attempt to protect the castle from the Attackersleaving only one in each episode to be crowned King or Queen of Splatalot.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Temple Street Productions and Astral’s Family Channel have begun principal photography on The Next Step (26×30) a tween-targeted single camera narrative drama, shot in a reality TV style, in Toronto, Canada. In addition to the TV series, additional content will be featured on Family.ca including, an after-show web series showcasing character interviews and behind-the-scenes footage and commentary on the series’ storylines. Created by Frank van Keeken (Wingin’ It), The Next Step revolves around a group of elite dancers at The Next Step Dance Studio as they work to win the regional dance competition. The group trains, rehearses and hang out together  in their unique and well-established social order. But things change when a talented new dancer joins the studio. Commissioned by Family Channel, The Next Step is produced by Temple Street and is Executive Produced by van Keeken (Wingin’ It, Kids in the Hall, Billable Hours), Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier (Being Erica, Wingin’ It, Recipe to Riches). BBC Worldwide holds the international distribution rights. The Next Step is also produced with the financial assistance from The Shaw Rocket Fund.
