Cynopsis: Kids!
10/25/10

Good morning. It’s Monday, October 25, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Build-A-Bear Workshop partners with actress Victoria Justice (Victorious) for several efforts.  Build-A-Bear will launch a line of Victoria Justice branded fashions and accessories for its plush collection, which will be available at stores and online beginning this year.  First up is a bear-sized t-shirt available from December 2010, followed in early 2011 by a red carpet inspired dress, and later in 2011 a Victoria Justice plush.  Justice will also offer her fashion suggestions for the animal pals that fans can hear this holiday season at Facebook.com/buildabear ( www.facebook.com/buildabear ).  Justice is also actively involved in Build-A-Bear’s Love.Hugs.Smiles. ( www.buildabear.com/lovehugssmiles ) initiative that asks consumers to share their various reasons to smile every day.  As part of this effort, Justice has visited a local Build-A-Bear Workshops store and took part in a special Build-A-Party event.

Electronic Arts (EA) has acquired indie game publisher Chillingo.  In acquiring Chillingo, EA says it grows its market leadership of its EA Mobile group on the Apple platform and games and also strengthens its position as a wireless entertainment publisher.  Chillingo ( www.chillingo.com ) is best known for its mobile game titles including Angry Birds, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, iDracula, and Modern Conflict.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Sony Online Entertainment welcomes four new actors to its voice-over talent lineup for DC Universe Online (DCUO) multiplayer online world.  New voice cast members include: Arleen Sorkin (Batman: The Animated Series) as the Joker’s slightly off girlfriend/henchman Harley Quinn; Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation) as Robin, the Boy Wonder; Corey Burton (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Batman: The Brave and the Bold) as Brainiac; and Dwight Schultz (The A-Team, Star Trek: The Next Generation) lends his voice to The Flash.  DCUO ( www.dcuniverseonline.com) is scheduled to ship in early 2011 for both the PC and Playstation 3.  DCUO carries an ESRB rating of T for Teens.

The Mad Science Group ( www.madscience.org ) launches the Mad Science Kids Club ( www.madsciencekidsclub.com), a science-centric social network targeted specifically for kids, which is powered by Everloop ( www.everloop.com ).  The science-based platform invites kids to connect, explore and learn along side other kids through special designed science enrichment programs.  The site will also offer a range of social media features for kids such as real-time instant messaging, email, VoIP, a Skype-like application, a friend post stream for kids to share their favorite content (e.g. videos, music, photos), and a game arcade to name a few.  The Mad Science Kids Club is powered by Everloop’s COPPA-compliant Private Label solution.  Parents can also monitor their kid’s online activities through the parental control dashboard.  Mad Science Kids Club applications include:

  • Lab Rat – a panel of experts answer real kids’ questions about real science
  • Science Zone – provides kids and parents with at home science experiments
  • Brain Busters – brain teasers, puzzles and optical illusions
  • Around the World – an online kids’ book club

Sterling Children’s Books is set to launch a new teen-targeted fiction book imprint, entitled Splinter, in January 2011, per Publishers Weekly.  The imprint debuts January 11 with the first title in a fantasy/romance series, Tiger’s Curse, by author Colleen Houck.  Two sequels will follow in June and November 2011, Tiger’s Quest and Tiger’s Voyage, respectively.  With the mission of providing teens with what they want to read, and when and how they want to read it, the books are set to be released simultaneously in hardcover and e-book formats, with the print editions to be imbedded with TAG codes that will allow readers with Smartphones to scan the codes and access web-only material.  The report also says that Sterling will include options that take advantage of parent company Barnes & Noble’s “More in Store” features.  A second Splinter book series is planned for fall 2011, with a third slated for 2012.  While initially focusing on book series, Splinter will publish standalone novels, but all books will focus on teens looking to make their own way.

Anchor Bay Entertainment will release the new Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! DVD, Fly Us To The Moon, on Tuesday, November 16, 2010.  The new release also features several episodes of the series, Tooth or Dare, Wonder Wubbzy, and The Super Fixers, the bonus episode All Bottled Up, as well as various extras including coloring and activity sheets, music videos among other things.  Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! is produced by Bolder Media in association with Film Roman Animation Studio, a unit of Starz Media.  The DVD release is also featuring a new sweepstakes on Wubbzy.com ( www.wubbzy.com ).

MARKETING/LICENSING

Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products teams with Konami to announce the release date and unveil the song lineup for the upcoming Karaoke Revolution Glee video game exclusively for Nintendo Wii, which will be available nationwide from November 9, 2010.  The song line-up for fans to test out their singing ability alongside the Glee cast with some songs from season one of the series include: Somebody to Love; Gold Digger; No Air; My Life Would Suck Without You; You Can’t Always Get What You Want; Proud Mary; Endless Love; Defying Gravity; And I’m Telling You I Am Not Going; Taking Chances.

Zoo Entertainment’s Zoo Games reveals that Silly Bandz will be the focus of a new video game for the Nintendo DS debuting for holiday 2010.  The multi-level game invites players to rescue trapped Silly Bandz and bringing them freedom.  To rescue captured Silly Bandz, players must strategically use the Bandz in their in-game collection to take aim at the cages in each level.  Once free, the Silly Bandz join players’ collections and can then be used to help rescue others.  As play progresses, 200 Silly Bandz are unlocked over 40 levels in various environments, players must be aware strategically of evildoers trying to sabotage the rescue operation.  Additionally, the DS game is bundled with a 12-pack of exclusive video game themed Silly Bandz, including game controller, joystick, arcade machine and pinball game shapes.  Rated # for everyone, the Silly Bandz for the Nintendo DS will be available in early December.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment launches two new preschool-targeted video games, Sesame Street: Elmo’s A-to-Zoo Adventure and Sesame Street: Cookie’s Counting Carnival, for Wii, Nintendo DS and PCs.  The games support early literacy and math skills and features user-friendly game play helpers that simplify game play controls, thus making them easier for kid’s small hands and developing skills.  Both games are rated EC for Early Childhood.  More information about the games can be found at SesameStreetVideogames.com ( www.sesamestreetvideogames.com ).  Additionally, Warner Home Video and Sesame Workshop have released C is for Cookie Monster on DVD.

Answer to Yesterday’s Trivia:   This is a different kind of school, built for sons and daughters of famous monsters and based in an old cemetery.  Who is the name of this school? GRAVEDALE HIGH where the only Human Teacher is Max Schneider (voiced by Rick Moranis)  Kudos to:  Scott Oldeman/Boston

Today’s Trivia Question:   Who am I?  I work with the 101st Calvary outfit, and directly with Corporal Rusty (who is actually just a boy left orphaned after his parents were killed in an Indian raid).  We are based at Fort Apache in the Arizona Territory.  Who am I?  (Email [email protected] with your answer and be sure to include your name, company, city and time zone.
