NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

MTV‘s previously announced new teen/young adult series Skins (10×60) and Teen Wolf (12×60) are set to join the channel’s programming lineup in 2011.  Teen Wolf, a dark re-boot of MGM’s original movie, begins production this October in Atlanta, while MTV’s adaptation of the teen-targeted UK drama Skins begins production later this month in Toronto.

  • From Jeff Davis (creator, Criminal Minds) and Ren Echevarria (executive producer, Medium, Castle) and Marty Adelstein (executive producer, Prison Break), Teen Wolf is a co-production with MGM.  The make-up team for the first season includes effects by K.N.B. Effects Group (Predators, The Chronicles of Narnia) and computer graphics by EdenFX (Lost, 24, Spider-Man 3).  The series stars Tyler Posey (Main in Manhattan, Brothers and Sisters), Crystal Reed, Dylan O’Brian, Tyler Hoechlin (Road to Perdition, 7the Heaven), Derek Hale and Holland Roden.
  • Created by father/son team Stormdog Films, Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain, the series ensemble is comprised of a group of newcomers. Elsley is writing, producing and executive producing the US version of the series. Skins is co-produced by E1 Entertainment and Company Pictures, a division of All3Media, which also produces the UK series.  Also executive production Skins are Laszlo Barna and Michael Rosenberg from E1 and  Company Pictures’ Charlie Pattinson and George Faber

MORE KIDS STUFF

Nickelodeon will premiere Fred: The Movie, a new TV movie based on the popular internet character Fred Figglehorn, on Friday, September 17 at 8p.  Based on the character created by real teen Lucas Cruikshank, who also stars as Fred, the movie finds Fred trying to win over his unrequited love-interest, Judy.  Fred: The Movie also stars Jennette McCurdy (iCarly) as Bertha, John Cena (of WWE fame) as Fred’s dad and Siobhan Fallon as his mom, with UK teen star Pixie Lott taking on the role of Judy.  Conceived and developed by Brian Robbins, the movie is produced by Robbins and Sharla Sumpter Bridgett, Varsity Pictures, and The Collective’s Gary Binkow and Evan Weiss.  The movie is directed by Clay Weiner and written by David A. Goodman (Family Guy).  Nickelodeon viewers met Fred Figglehorn in 2009 when Cruikshank made his TV debut as Fred on an episode of iCarly.

Marvel Entertainment reveals the team behind its new animated Spider-Man series, which will premiere on Disney XD.  The creative team for the new Ultimate Spider-Man animated series includes writers Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series, Lost) and Brian Michael Bendis (Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man comic series), and Man of Action Studios (Ben 10, Generator Rex), which is comprised of Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau and Steven T. Seagle.  Dini will serve as both a Creative Consultant as well as a writer on the series pilot.  As Supervising Producers, Man of Action Studios will direct the writing staff and story edit.  Bendis, who is credited for reinventing Spider-Man, will oversee the series as Consulting Producer.

National Geographic Kids will launch its new interactive virtual National Geographic Animal Jam ( www.animaljam.com ) next month.  Developed by National Geographic Kids and Smart Bomb Interactive, Animal Jam taps into kids’ love of animals as a way to educate them about science and nature.  Using their imaginations and animal avatars kids are invited to make their way through the multiple landscapes of a world called Jamaa, where they can plan mini games, take trivia challenges and interact with friends.  The virtual world also makes National Geographic’s library of multimedia content available to users and their families, allowing them to access video features, photos and facts about flora and fauna.  Currently in beta testing, National Geographic Animal Jam is free to play and in September will introduce a paid membership option.  Members will have access to additional content and special features (new lands, games, adventures and videos), as well as bonus Gems (virtual currency).  Those members who sign up for six months or more will have access to premiums from National Geographic Publishing as well as discounts on its books and magazines.

Wubbzy Goes To School, the DVD featuring episodes of Nick Jr.’s preschool series Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! is released by Anchor Bay Entertainment.  The DVD title features six episodes of the series, which is produced by Bolder Media in association with Starz Media’s Film Roman Animation Studio.  As part of a new promotional partnership between Anchor Bay and Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurants, a clip of Wubbzy will run in Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurants through August 31 to support the DVD release.

Answer to Yesterday’s Trivia:
This 400-year old cave dwelling cartoon character was known for his reluctance to be mean, he was also allergic to daisies.  Who is he?  TOBIAS THE RELUCTANT DRAGON  Kudos to …. nobody.  Okay – I know you know this one ….

Today’s Trivia Question:   These people, only three apples high, lived in a tiny medieval like village in the forest away from the prying eyes of civilization.  Who are they? (Email [email protected] with your answer and be sure to include your name, company, city and time zone. Unofficial rules: Only the second four correct answers from each time zone will be mentioned; and once you’ve been mentioned in any of the Cynopsis editions, you can’t be mentioned again that calendar week.)
