Good morning. It’s Friday, October 25, 2013, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing. 

FOX Sports’ first swing at the plate was a hit as the World Series scored an 8.6/14 national household rating/share with 14.4 million viewers tuning in, according to Nielsen. Opening night of the 2013 Fall Classic grew 13% in rating and 18% in viewership over last year’s 7.6/12 (12.2 million viewers) to mark the network’s most-watched primetime broadcast since January. In addition, according to figures released by Nielsen SocialGuide, Twitter activity for Game 1 saw more than 793,000 tweets (up 6% from 2012 World Series Game 1) from more than 360,000 unique authors (up 12%). On the local front, Boston led all markets with a 39.7/61, followed by St. Louis’ 36.0/54.

On the Air

In addition, FOX International Channels locked in a multi-year agreement to carry MLB games throughout 30 European territories. The new deal includes exclusive rights to all upcoming MLB games, and begins with the 2013 World Series and includes regular season games, the MLB All-Star Game, Home Run Derby, wild card matchups, Divisional Series and League Championship Series across multiple platforms.

beIN SPORT, which is gearing up for the first Clasico of the season between Barcelona and Real Madrid on Saturday at noon, announced that the network had signed Hugo Sanchez, the famed Real Madrid and Mexican international player, manager and current La Liga ambassador to the Americas, to its broadcast team. Sanchez will make his first appearance for the Clasico.

ESPN renewed its deal with commentator Doris Burke with a multi-year extension that will now see her join the Wednesday editions of Kia NBA Countdown alongside analysts Jalen Rose and Avery Johnson. She will make her Countdown debut on Wednesday, November 13, at 7:30p. Burke will continue to serve as both an analyst and a reporter for NBA games on ABC and ESPN, including the NBA Finals. She will also maintain her role as a lead men’s college basketball and women’s college basketball game analyst.

The 30thrunning of the Breeders’ Cup Classic is set to take place on Saturday, November 2 with 9 1/2 hours of coverage across two days by the NBC Sports Group. All 14 Breeders’ Cup races will be televised live by NBC and NBCSN. The action begins on Nov. 1 at 4p on NBCSN and wraps up with the live primetime broadcast of the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday, November 2 at 8p on NBC. For the first time, live Breeders’ Cup bonus coverage will also air during NBCSN’s 3p Notre Dame/Navy pregame show.

HBO Sports’ franchise 24/7 has a new partner for its upcoming NHL series 24/7 Red Wings/Maple Leafs: Road to the NHL Winter Classic. The series will debut Saturday, Dec. 14 at 10p with four episodes of the show on deck. This year, Sportsnet will serve as the show’s first partner in Canada, where the show will debut on Dec. 15. 

The NFL confirmed its slate of 2014 International Series games, revealing matchups that include Cowboys/Jaguars, Lions/Falcons and Dolphins Raiders. All three games will take place at London’s Wembley Stadium.

The Miami Beach Bowl is officially alive with a new college bowl game set to take place at Marlins Ballpark that will feature an AAC team starting in December 2014. The opponent will usually come from the Mid-American Conference, the Sun Belt Conference or Conference USA. The deal spans six years through the 2019 season.

In an interview on FOX Sports Live, UFC President Dana White announced that fighters Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva will coach the upcoming third season of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil. The two UFC veterans will then face each other in a fight at the end of the season.

Golf’s Best of 2013 presented by GEICO, a 60-minute television special from Intersport and CBS is set to run on Sunday at 5p in most major markets.  The special will feature a sit-down interview with British Open champion Phil Mickelson as well as look into Tiger Woods’ Player of the Year campaign.

The Professional Bull Riders and CBS Interactive announced an agreement to take on production and management of PBR’s new digital subscription product, featuring live and on-demand video. Subscribers will get access to over 100 live-streaming broadcasts on PBR.com, including every Built Ford Tough Series event, as well as 18 Touring Pro Division events. The streaming schedule begins with this week’s PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals. This new agreement expands CBS’s relationship with PBR across multiple platforms, including digital, broadcast and cable television.
