Cynopsis: Kids!

05/06/11

Good morning. It’s Friday, May 6, 2011, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Luken Communications, an owner/operator of TV stations in the US (Retro TV Network – RTV and TUFF TV), is teaming up with Classic Media to create a new 24-hour network, PBJ, which will feature popular series from the 1950s-1980s.  Set to launch nationwide this summer, PBJ’s programming lineup will feature series from Classic Media’s library including The Archie’s, Mr. Magoo, The Lone Ranger, Gumby, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, among others.  Luken will make PBJ available to broadcasters, cable and satellite.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Hugh Grant joins the voice cast of The Pirates! Band of Misfits, the stop-motion, 3D animated movie produced by Aardman Animations for Sony Pictures Animation.  Distributed by Columbia Pictures, the movie is set for its North American release on March 30, 2012.  Other stars lending their voices to characters in The Pirates! Band of Misfits include Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Imelda Staunton, Jeremy Piven, Salma Hayek, Brian Blessed, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jenson.  Grant stars as voice of Pirate Captain, an enthusiastic but only mildly successful rogue of the High Seas.  The Pirate Captain along with his ragtag crew (Freeman, Gleeson, Tovey, and Jenson) sets out on a quest to beat his rival pirates, Black Bellamy (Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Hayek) to win the covered Pirate Of The Year Award.  The Pirates! Band of Misfits is directed by Peter Lord, a founding partner of Aardman, and director of Chicken Run (with Nick Park).  The movie is co-directed by Jeff Newitt.  The movie’s screenplay is penned by Gideon Defoe, and is based on his books.  Production Designer is Norman Garwood. Producers are Lord, David Sproxton, and Julie Lockhart. Executive Producer is Carla Shelley.

The Hunger Games adds to its cast … Wes Bentley (American Beauty) signs on as Seneca Crane in the Lionsgate movie.  Additionally, the boy/girl tributes for District 8 will be played by Samuel Tan and Mackenzie Lintz.  Hang in there  this leaves just three Districts yet to be cast … and a few other roles.  Directed by Gary Ross from a script by The Hunger Games is set for release on March 23, 2012.
