Short and sweet: Amazon Studios is widening its call for original content to include short concept videos for development options. Fresh from green-lighting its first slate of kids and general-interest series, the digital studio is now soliciting short concept videos that offer a “compelling idea for a commercial, theatrical feature film.” Filmmakers worldwide can submit 2-15 minute videos to the Amazon Studios site. The process works just like script submission; there’s a 45-day option and evaluation period and creators of projects added to the development slate will receive a $10,000 payment. Amazon already has 26 films in development, ranging from the cheeky “I Think My Facebook Friend Is Dead” to thriller “Origin of A Species” to “For Sale By Superhero,” an animated kids romp (http://studios.amazon.com/development-slate/movies).

Save the date! The annual Cynopsis: Sports Business Summit is set to take place on Aug. 14 in NY, and will feature some of the biggest names driving sports today. In addition, we are holding our Women of Action cocktail event celebrating and discussing the impact women are having in the sports industry on Aug. 13.

New Programming + Deals

Net2TV will debut a television newscast from online news provider Newsy on its free connected TV streaming service Portico TV. Newsy produces mostly two-minute news videos for its own website, mobile apps and content partners (including MSN News). For the new deal, Net2TV will aggregate Newsy clips covering domestic and world news, entertainment, sports, politics, health and more–into a half-hour show called “Newsy In 30.” The new show debuts in July; Portico TV is available on Philips Smart TVs and will bow on Roku devices next month.

History Digital kicked off its Civil War Week campaign with a free streaming event on History.com live from Gettysburg in honor of the 150th anniversary of that epic battle, in partnership with the Gettysburg Foundation and the National Park Service. History will be airing themed content and daily offerings across several platforms including History in the Headlines, History Lists, Hungry History and the ever popular Civil War Today app.

Foodies, start your engines. Anthony Eats America, the highly anticipated web series from writer/actor-cum-culinary-wizard Anthony Anderson, premieres Monday on America Online. It was only a matter of time before Anderson, whose credits include Law & Order and a recurring role on The Shield, combined cooking and story-telling prowess. He says he was asked to be a judge on Iron Chef America and compete on Chopped while living in New York for Law & Order.

No Lipsticks for Nuns, the third episode of Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, featuring Gad Elmaleh, is now available at comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com and on Crackle. New episodes of Seinfeld’s web-only hijinks will debut every Thursday at noon.

Mobile Games + Apps

CrowdFlik, the video platform that lets users create, edit and share crowd-sourced video, now has a free CrowdFlik app. The app slices videos into synchronized 10-second segments and assembles them on the CrowdFlik cloud-based edit platform where users can select segments from their videos along with footage captured by other attendees to create personalized multi-angle edits. Once uploaded, the service allows site users to re-assemble footage and create unique content.

Content Everywhere

Ready or not, Aero is coming to Chicago. The live subscription-TV service, which has stirred more than a little controversy in recent months, will provide streams of live local broadcasts to 9.5 million consumers in Chicago and surrounding locales in Illinois and Indiana beginning in September. The service already is up and running in designated markets in New York, Boston and Atlanta, despite continued court battles by broadcasters seeking to have the service shut down, contending that the Aero service violates copyright law. According to Aero, the Chicago launch will provide access to ABC’s WLS-TV, CBS’ WBBM-TV, Fox’s WFLD-TV, NBC’s WMAQ-TV, PBS affiliate WYCC, select special-interest programming and Bloomberg Television.

We’re two weeks into the launch of Myspaces new platform, and the reimagined digital hangout is sharing some key metrics. In the first 14 days, 31 million unique site visitors checked out the new Myspace. Of those, 34% of traffic came through mobile. To date, there’ve been 995,000 downloads and updates of the new app. To support its launch, Myspace debuted a $20 million marketing campaign across broadcast, cable and digital with multiple spots featuring musicians, artists and creatives running on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the NBA Finals, and the BET Awards, and on cable nets including Comedy Central, MTV, MTV2, Fuse, BET, Adult Swim, and ESPN. The airing of a Myspace commercial during the premiere of MTV’s Catfish, for example, created a spike of 54,000 Twitter mentions of Myspace during the spot. Myspace is also partnering with brands, including a new initiative to bring the Jimmy Kimmel Live! Live Stream concert series to viewers.

Coinstar Inc. stockholders have approved a name change to Outerwall Inc. The company, which operates the automated DVD and videogame rental kiosk business Redbox among other properties, will begin trading under the new NASDAQ ticker OUTR on July 2.

Marketing & Measurement

Mobile marketing platform Gradient X today officially launches with a custom turnkey technology designed to let marketers deliver targeted mobile banner, rich media and video campaigns at scale. Out of the gate Gradient X is offering models of programmatic ad buying: self serve and managed service. Among the brands that have been testing the service, which uses intuitive dashboards that provide analytics and optimization capabilities within the same application, the platform include Western Union, Jeep, Audi, Toyota, Motorola, HTC and Microsoft.

Exec Moves

Gokul Rajaram, the advertising tech guru formerly of Facebook and Google, has joined Square as Product Engineering Lead. Rajaram will head development for point-of-sale system Square Register.

Word on the street is that Google has hired Gene Frantz, a veteran private equity investor, to help steer its Google Capital division that invests in late-stage companies. Frantz most recently was a partner at TPG Capital, from 1999-2012.

Digital Spotlight of the Day

Standing tall among the pop culture paeans to equality this week after the Supreme Court stomped out the Defense of Marriage Act is Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Same Love,” and accompanying YouTube video. The same-sex anthem, which openly embraces the concept of gay marriage, is the third single off the duo’s album “The Heist.” It took the No. 33 spot on Billboard’s Top 40 chart last week and no doubt will end this week in much higher standing.
