Cynopsis: Kids!
12/23/11

Good morning. It’s Friday, December 23, 2011, and this your first early morning briefing.

Nickelodeon unveils plans to premiere its new live-action comedy How To Rock, staring Cymphonique Miller, on Saturday, February 4, at 8:30p. Produced by Nickelodeon in association with Alloy Entertainment, How To Rock follows teen Kacey Simon (Miller), a former ‘mean girl’ who falls out of the in clique when she gets glasses and braces and winds up hanging out with a new group of friends, a band of which she is the lead singer.  Daughter of hip-hop entrepreneur Percy Miller (aka Master P.), Cymphonique also sings the theme song for the series, Only You Can Be You.  How To Rock is based on a pilot script by Jim O’Doherty (Grounded for Life, 3rd Rock from the Sun, The Tracy Morgan Show) and the recently released Alloy Entertainment book How to Rock Braces and Glasses by Meg Haston.  The series is executive produced by David M. Israel (Grounded for Life, 3rd Rock from the Sun, The Tracy Morgan Show), who is also a writer on the series.

LICENSING

V&S Entertainment and HTI, a UK-based designer/manufacturer of wheeled toys, ink a licensing deal for wheeled toys based on the HD CGI preschool property Everything’s Rosie for the UK.  Under the new deal HTI will produce various wheeled toys, including a wide ride scooter, 10-inch and 12-inch bikes, skates, skateboards, helmets and a range of wheeled toy accessories.  It will also include doll’s prams and pushchairs (baby buggies/strollers), featuring plastic molded prams, two frame designs and pushchair accessories, with both ranges set to launch in fall/winter 2012.

MORE KIDS STUFF

In Canada, Astral Media announce that Disney XD (www.disneyxd.ca), Astral’s newest kids service and the French-language Disney Junior (www.disneyjunior.ca) are now available on Cogeco Cable.  Disney XD will be available to Ontario Cogeco Digital subscribers as part of a three-month preview on channel 99, while the preschool-aimed Disney Junior network, available to Quebec-based subscribers, can be found on channel 89, also part of a free preview. The launches of both of these networks form part of the long-term renewal agreement between Astral and Cogeco Cable for Astral’s movie and kids services.

Scholastic Media launches I Spy Arcade apps, a new series of four gaming apps based on Scholastic’s I Spy (www.scholastic.com/ispy) books and games, for the iPhone, iPod Touch and Android platforms.  The I Spy Arcade game apps feature I Spy objects in an arcade style play pattern with increasingly challenging brainteasers.  The first app, I Spy Arcade: Match Attack, is available now, while I Spy Arcade: Spy Squares, I Spy Arcade: Fine Line and I Spy Arcade: Critter Craze will roll out one per month in the respective stores through March 2012 ($2.99/each).  These are Scholastic’s first apps for the Android devices.

DHX Media launches a new app Grandpa in My Pocket app, Mr. Whoops and the Surprise Treasure Hunt, in the UK for iOS devices.  Based on the CBeebies-commissioned preschool Grandpa in My Pocket series, the Mr. Whoops and the Surprise Treasure Hunt app invites players to help Jason and Grandpa find all the new toys that Floyd has hidden in the factory and get them back into Mr. Whoops’ shop before Mr. Whoops gets back.  The new app was developed by DHX Interactive and its release coincides with Creative Content Digital release of the Grandpa in my Pocket audio book.  Additionally, Abbey Home Media has released the new Grandpa in my Pocket two-disc DVD, The Magic of Christmas.  Grandpa In My Pocket is developed and produced by Adastra Creative, with participation from Finance Wales.

Another day another digital distribution pact for LeapFrog (www.leapfrog.com). LeapFrog and Hasbro enter into a new deal, under which LeapFrog acquires the license rights to offer Hasbro Studios animated programming via its LeapFrog App Center.  Beginning this month, episodes of Hasbro Studios’ My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, The Adventures of Chuck and Friends and Pound Puppies are available at the App Center.
