Good morning. It’s Wednesday, November 19, 2014, and this is your first early morning briefing.

TODAY’S TOP NEWS

Cupcake Digital continues to sweeten its pot with the acquisition yesterday of Little Bit Studio, developer of the popular Bugs and Buttons app series. This is Cupcake’s second acquisition this year, following the purchase of iStoryTime in March. Little Bit Studio will fold into Cupcake Digital’s broader structure of technology and marketing resources; new Bugs and Buttons and other product will be introduced as early as Q1 2015. Additionally, Little Bit Studio founders Scott Vann and Jason Luber will hold senior positions at Cupcake Digital. “The acquisition of Little Bit Studio allows us to strategically build our growing IP portfolio with this highly original, creative company,” said Cupcake Digital CEO Brad Powers.

Looks like Shrek and My Little Pony are not destined to become siblings after all. Hasbro has called off its probe into possibly acquiring DreamWorks Animation. As previously reported, the Jeffrey Katzenberg-helmed studio was seeking $30 a share, a jump from the original trading price of $22 a share. The toy maker and DreamWorks previously collaborated on the Shrek and Kung Fu Panda movies and merchandise. Katzenberg and company reportedly are in discussions about selling a 25 percent stake DreamWorks Animations’ YouTube channel AwesomenessTV to Hearst.

PRODUCTION NOTES

Two new live-action pilots are headed to Nickelodeon–comedies The Dunes Club (working title) from Heather Flanders (Undateable, Lab Rats) and Future Shock (working title), from Mitchel Katlin and Nat Bernstein (See Dad Run),]. Nick also renewed second seasons of recent ratings-grabbers Henry Danger and Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn. Here’s what the new pilots are about:
* The Dunes Club: Set in a high-end beach club, an unlikely friendship forms between a sheltered, privileged boy and a street-smart local girl who takes a job for the summer to earn extra cash. Pilot production begins in January 2015.
* Future Shock: Two brothers get the shock of their lives when a girl from the future accidentally transports them with their mom to the year 2070. Pilot production begins in January 2015.

Disney Junior ordered a second season of Mandy Moore-voiced Sheriff Callie’s Wild West. The series charted new territory when it premiered on the WATCH Disney Junior app in November 2013, before its TV debut, and amassed more than 23 million views.

BabyFirst and the National Hispanic Media Coalition launched a Latino-themed programming competition. The “Rising Creators Project” invites writers, musicians, animators and producers to submit ideas or existing children’s TV series for consideration. A panel of media executives will select one winner whose show will appear on BabyFirst for two years plus apps and online. The network currently reaches 41 million U.S. households. Entries can be submitted through March 15, 2015 at www.risingcreators.com.

Several new kids productions in the works at Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana. Nelvana is in a development agreement with Brown Bag Films and Candy Bear for new girl-targeted CG-animated preschool series Cozy Island. Created by Gili Dolev and Yvette Kaplan and designed by Erez Gavish of Candy Bear, the series is about an imaginative girl named Naya who moves to Cozy Island with her family for her mother’s new job. She discovers the island is a “very bouncy place filled with amazing new friends.”… Nelvana is also developing CG-animated series Camp Yeti, together with the newly formed Abominable Snowman, led by Keith Chapman and Ian Liddell. The show is about a summer camp from Studio Liddell (Cloudbabies) to develop the 52 x 11-minute series about a special summer sleep-away summer camp where young yetis spend their days trekking through snowy peaks, making yeti crafts, eating spag-yeti and singing yeti songs around the campfire. Anticipated delivery is fall 2016.

The search for the next great Latino boy band is on, and Simon Cowell’s onboard. Auditions for Univision reality competition La Banda, developed with Cowell’s Syco Entertainment and Saban Brands and co-produced with FremantleMedia Latin America, are open at LaBandaoficial.com. Online casting will be followed by casting events across the U.S. and Puerto Rico in spring 2015, for a fall 2015 premiere.

The trailer to The Peanuts Movie is here! 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Animation tease the CGI-animated film, slated to open next holiday season–Nov. 6, 2015–with a Snoopy-centric clip, of course with some Woodstock sauce. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XmV3zGifOE

PROGRAMMING PICKS

The boys of One Direction stopped by Sesame Street to help show kids What Makes U Beautiful-the letter, that is-in an adorable clip that debuted this week. The boy band also released their fourth album on Monday, aptly titled Four. Here’s their video with Elmo and friends: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Dwm7-aSpxs

The Fa-la-la-lidays are back on Disney Channel. In its fourth year, the programming promo begins Nov. 28 and runs through December featuring themed episodes and other goodies including: a holiday reunion ep of Girl Meets World guest-starring Boy Meets World alumni Rider Strong, William Russ and Betsy Randle plus Disney Pixar’s Toy Story That Time Forgot. The Fa-La-La-Lidays also include a winter makeover of DisneyChannel.com.  Each week, there’ll be a new "gift" to unwrap containing holiday-themed games, videos and activities. It will also feature online crafts, giving fans the ability to print their own one-of-a-kind presents to share, including posters, holiday cards and ornaments.

PARTNERSHIPS & PROMOTIONS

Cuties are apparently for PBS Kids. Cuties California Clementines are the first national digital sponsorship partner for the PBS Kids brand. The parent-targeted campaign, which kicks off this week and runs through June 2015, runs across PBS Kids’ digital platforms including pbskids.org and the PBS Kids Video App and will include content on the PBS Parents website and in parent-focused video series distributed by PBS Digital Studios. The brand integration is part of Cuties’ ongoing “Unwrap Sweetness” campaign. It will also include a national sweepstakes to launch in early 2015, and a cameo by Sun Pacific’s sister fruit Mighties Kiwi, in a bid to make the fuzzy little super food more approachable.

My Gym Children’s Fitness Center is running a holiday campaign centered around preschool series Julius Jr.  The campaign highlights a custom music and movement program as part of My Gym’s preschooler fitness curriculum, featuring original music from the Saban Brands series. Other elements include character tattoos, hand stamps and music and movement work sheets, coloring pages and DIY character masks. Julius Jr. airs on Nick Jr. in the U.S.
