IN THE NEWS

Colbert is getting a sweet spot. CBS will air a live edition of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert immediately following Super Bowl 50 on Sunday, February 7, from the Ed Sullivan Theater in NY.

One thing we can all agree on, this year’s GOP debates are good for ratings. Fox Business Network’s Tuesday-night debate pulled in 13.5 million viewers, enough to set another record for a cable news network hosting a debate. Last month, CNBC, which is available in more homes, logged 14 million viewers for its Republican debate.

Telemundo is holding a panel discussion in NYC today about the launch of an initiative, “Tu Dinero es Tu Futuro” (Your Money Is Your Future), aimed at improving the financial health of Hispanics in the U.S. “We all know that Hispanics contribute greatly to the overall economic health of our nation, yet when it comes to savings and wealth creation, there is data that suggestsLatinos are behind,” Rocky Egusquiza, VP, community affairs for Telemundo, tells Cynopsis.“Your Money is Your Future focuses on providing information and tips to empower our communities to reach their short and long term financial goals, one step at time.”

CASTING

Tamar Braxton is departing ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, following continued health issues. The R&B singer informed her followers on Instagram that she learned she has pulmonary embolisms and not pneumonia, as initially diagnosed.

Arjay Smith (Perception) scored a recurring role on TNT drama Major Crimes. He’ll play a neighborhood drug dealer.

USA Network pilot Brooklyn Animal Control is bringing on Daniel Zovatto (It Follows) as an unemployed drunk and car thief in debt to all the wrong people.

ADVERTISING AND BRANDS

Why are advertisers eyeing syndication as place target to millennials? Michael Teicher, EVP, media sales for Twentieth Television, tells Cynopsis it’s no coincidence Twentieth is home to A18-34-friendly fare like Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers and The Cleveland Show. “Among our strengths is understanding the young millennial audience. Thus, we have built a rich library of content, making us uniquely positioned to cater to this hard to reach demo,” says Teicher. And that foresight is getting results. “Given the number of individual client meetings we’ve held over the last two years – focusing in large part on our millennial strength – we have seen a lift in spending by current advertisers and we are garnering new clients that see our programs as an integral part of reaching their target audience,” says Teicher.

GLOBAL GOINGS ON

Starry Productions’ version of Star China’s Infinite Challenge, a format from MBC in Korea, will premiere on Sunday, November 22, at 8p on CCTV-1.
