Just two days after his brief, tumultuous tenure at ABC’s The View came to an end, Bill Wolff was named executive producer for Chelsea Handler’s upcoming Netflix talker, arriving in 2016. “Bill is the visionary we have been looking for to create a dynamic new format that’s global, informative and entertaining,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos.

IN THE NEWS

The collection of celebs for the next edition of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars includes Alex Skarlatos, one of the three Americans who received France’s Legion d’Honneur for subduing a suspected terrorist on a Paris-bound train last month. Also of interest in the group: Spy Kids star Alexa PenaVega and her husband Carlos PenaVega, the first married competitors; once-disgraced chef Paula Deen; former Celebrity Apprentice contestant Gary Busey and jockey Victor Espinoza. Full list here. Season 21 premiere date: Monday, September 14 at 8p.

Samantha Bee’s upcoming show has a name, Full Frontal, and a (not for the prudish) new promo. The former Daily Show correspondent’s late nighter launches in January on TBS.

More late night news: The Daily Show added three new correspondents. Comedians Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic and Roy Wood Jr. join host Trevor Noah and his Comedy Central team for a Monday, September 28 launch.

Not to be outdone, CBS announced the 11 new teams set for Amazing Race, launching Friday, September 25 at 8p. Among the crowd ready to take off from Venice Beach, CA: f
ormer New York Jets cheerleaders, street dancing brothers, TMZ personalities, dating news reporters and an engaged couple whose Amazing Race-themed marriage proposal went viral.

TV nominees for the 2015 Environmental Media Awards, honoring people and productions that increase public awareness of environmental issues, include The Newsroom, The Blacklist, Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons, Cristela, Biggest and Baddest: Man-Eating Tiger, Last Week With John Oliver and Vice: Our Rising Oceans. Awards will be handed out October 24 in Burbank.

The contributions of female filmmakers are spotlighted in TCM multi-year initiative “Trailblazing Women.” The programming event, hosted by actress, producer and director Illeana Douglas, premieres October 1 and airs every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the month. Not-so-fun fact: Men outnumbered women 23-1 as directors of the 1300 top-grossing films since 2002.

Media General and Fox Television Stations announced the Monday, September 14 debut of one-hour entertainment news show Hollywood Today LIVE. Produced by Media General’s BiteSizeTV, the Millennial-focused daily offers “a fresh spin as part of our larger focus on creating original content that is unique and engaging,” said Media General head of programming Tony Optican.

Nielsen’s paper diaries will be around for a little longer than planned. The measurement company has pushed the introduction of a new system from October 1 to January after “significant feedback” from clients concerned about the methodology, reports TVNewsCheck. “This extension will allow for additional analysis time and will also align with the start of our National Panel Expansion efforts,” said Nielsen in its notification.

HBO, DirecTV, Netflix, Nielsen and Turner will be among those honored with Technology and Engineering Emmy Awards, presented January 8 during the Consumer Electronics Show.
