Amazon has teamed with The Weinstein Co., which has U.S. and Canadian rights to Justin Kurtzel-directed Macbeth, to bring the Shakespeare adaptation to its subscribers after its December theatrical release. Earlier this year, Amazon’s head of Original Films Ted Hope said the tech giant plans to produce its own movies and gain early SVOD rights for theatrically-released films. 
 
Integral Ad Science raised $27 million in its latest round of funding led by Sapphire Ventures. Cross Creek Advisors, as well as existing Integral investors August Capital, Pelion Venture Partners and Atlas Venture, also contributed to the round. Additionally, Integral received a debt facility of $40 million from Silicon Valley Bank. “In today’s digital age, the problem isn’t only attribution of ad spend, but also the quality of each impression,” said Nino Marakovic, CEO and managing director of Sapphire Ventures, who will join the Integral Ad Science board. “Integral Ad Science is the clear global leader across all digital channels at tackling this problem.”
 
Comcast-owned NBC O&O stations in key markets aren’t accepting ads for Dish Network’s Sling TV that portray cable providers as industry bullies, reported the new streaming service. Network-owned ABC, CBS and Fox stations, as well as some independently-owned NBC affiliate stations, are running the ads.

                                                                                                                                          

NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS
 

Fusion teamed up with Surreal to produce a virtual reality episode for The Chris Gethard Show broadcast on Aug. 6. “We’re proud to make the experience of attending a taping available to anyone anywhere in a real way,” said Gethard. “It doesn’t matter if you’re in New York City with us anymore. You get to be a part of this.” The ep will be viewable with Google Cardboard available at TheChrisGethardShow.com and on YouTube.
 
In a bid to build buzz, the entire third and final season of StarzDa Vinci’s Demons and new limited series Flesh and Bone (“the underbelly of a ballet company”) will be released simultaneously on Starz Play and Starz On Demand on their linear premiere dates, Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, November 8, respectively. “Both series are engaging and well-suited for a binge-viewing experiment,” said David Baldwin, EVP of program planning.
 
International network Vibrant TV launched on streaming service KlowdTV. On top of a $3.99/month base fee, KlowdTV subscribers can access additional programming for $2.99. The service is available on Roku, Amazon FireTV, Sony Smart TVs, TiVo, iOS and Android devices.

CONTENT MEDIA
 

In an interview with Yahoo Global News Anchor Katie Couric, Gawker Founder and CEO Nick Denton addressed the fallout from the online media company’s controversial coverage of public figures, including the $100 million lawsuit from Hulk Hogan, and the outings of journalist Anderson Cooper and Apple CEO Tim Cook, and speaks about “kinder and gentler” reporting. The chat is available on Yahoo now.
 
The latest Disney Channel Original Movie, Descendants, recorded over one million views on the WATCH Disney Channel app in just five days prior to its linear premiere last week. Viewers who verified with a pay TV service on the app could also watch a live 24-hour feed of the network and access exclusive content.
 
In time for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Fandango Movieclips showcased Tom Cruise’s most memorable running sequences with a Run, Tom, Run! The Ultimate Movie Sprint Mashup on its YouTube channel. “Whether it’s dodging traffic, running from monsters, leaping onto an airplane or taking a running broad jump off a skyscraper, few actors are as good as Tom Cruise at mastering the exciting movie sprint,” said Dave Karger, Fandango Chief Correspondent.

 

 

MOBILE GAMING + APPS
 

Mattel and ToyTalk, a company that specialized in speech recognition technology, released the Thomas + Friends Talk to You interactive app in the Apple App Store. The app is kidSAFE+-certified to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
 

 
VC FUNDING + INVESTORS

 
HTC
invested $10 million in virtual reality start-up WEVR, giving the tech giant a 15 percent stake in the company. Recently, WEVR and Adult Swim created mobile VR app “The Virtual Brainload” for Samsung’s Gear VR and Google’s Cardboard set. WEVR will debut its first project, TheBlu: Encounter, on the HTC Vive, HTC’s own VR headset in partnership with video game company Valve.
 
WizRocket, the customer experience in-app solution, raised $8 million and $1.6 million from Sequoia CAPITAL and Accel Partners. “Awesome founders, awesome product… and I hate spam in my mobile notifications box,” Mohit Bhatnagar said, a Sequoia Capital partner. “So, it’s terrific to partner with WizRocket to solve this problem by personalizing mobile messaging."

’s Beasts of No Nation debuted its teaser trailer last week, and it’s intense. From director Cary Fukunaga (Jane Eyre), the film stars Idris Elba (Luther) and follows the story of a warlord and a child soldier in Africa.
