British TV streaming service Acorn acquired the Electronic-sell-through (EST) and DVD rights in North America to AMC’s Humans. Produced by Kudos (Broadchurch) and co-commissioned by the UK’s Channel 4 and AMC, Humans stars Oscar-winner William Hurt and debuted in the U.S. on June 28. Acorn will distribute episodes on Mondays for download on iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Vudu, Google Play, Xbox Video and Sony Entertainment Network; it will release Humans on DVD in the first quarter of 2016.
 
 

NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

 
At the San Diego Comic-Con yesterday, geek pop-culture platform Moviepilot and Entertainment Weekly announced a partnership to present co-branded video content with talent and influencers. Moviepilot and fan correspondents will join EW writers and editors at the EW Comic-Con Studio at San Diego’s Hard Rock Hotel, where participating Comic-Con talent will drop by for video segments. The fans will be matched with their pop culture heroes through interactive and synergetic videos, which will post on both EW.com and Moviepilot.com. Moviepilot has more than 25 million unique monthly visitors and 29 million Facebook fans.
 
Nadine Sykora
and Maya Washington inked new deals with multi-channel network Maker Studios. Canadian-born Sykora is a travel vlogger, blogger and comic who has more than 33.9 million YouTube views and nearly 200,000 subscribers. Washington, best known to her legion of fans as “Shameless Maya,” has collaborated with Maker on a number of original series and brand integrations, including the recently launched Maker Tales. She has collected more than 35 million views and more than 560,000 subscribers on YouTube.
 

 
CONTENT MEDIA
 

Delivery Agent is enabling Shark Week fans to go on another shopping spree for the second year in a row as they watch the marine marathon. As part of an ongoing partnership with Discovery Channel, DA will let viewers snap up exclusive Shark Week merchandise in real time through Twitter’s Buy Now button on mobile devices or computers, as well as using the remote control to make purchases on their TVs.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

The Digital Place Based Advertising Association (DPAA) announced that Don Allman, President and CEO of Titan, was voted to the association’s Board Of Directors. Allman held executive roles at Foster and Kleiser (now Clear Channel Outdoor) and TDI (now Outfront Media) before joining Titan in 2002. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Outdoor Advertising Association and the Traffic Audit Bureau.

Jane Tranter, Head of BBC Worldwide Productions and Adjacent Productions, will step down in August and be succeeded by Matt Forde, the current Executive Vice President, TV Sales + Digital Distribution. Forde’s new title will be Executive Vice President, Content Production, Sales and Distribution.

FanDuel hired Clifton Ma as General Manager of New Products. Ma was previously Business Lead and Senior Director of Fantasy Sports at Yahoo.

Ipsos named Peter Minnium as President of Ipsos Connect in the U.S. Minnium was most recently at Lowe Worldwide, the global creative agency network of the Interpublic Group, where he headed the Independent Brands Group.

Univision News appointed Keith Summa as Senior Vice President, Content Innovation. Prior to this new role, Summa was Vice President of News Partnerships for Univision News; he was previously head of the CBS News Investigative Unit.

Pongo named Ron Pomerantz as Vice President, Content + Strategy. Pomerantz joins Pongo from the Disney Channel, where he had been Vice President, Marketing + Creative.

DIGITAL SPOTLIGHT OF THE DAY

Fans of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events were surprised yesterday when an unauthorized trailer hit YouTube and racked up nearly 900,000 views. Netflix denies releasing the video but did not say that it would pull the clip. However, fans of the books know that Lemony Snicket is actually Daniel Handler, who’s known for his love of tricks.
