Santa is giving Bill Murray fans quite the gift this holiday season: a Netflix Christmas special. Titled A Very Murray Christmas, Murray, Sofia Coppola (Murray’s Lost in Translation director) and Mitch Glazer wrote the script and Coppola directs. The December special revolves around Murray’s Xmas party, which takes a turn when a major snowstorm threatens to keep guests away. The cast so far includes George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Michael Cera, Chris Rock, Maya Rudolph, Jason Schwartzman, Jenny Lewis, the band Phoenix, Rashida Jones, and Miley Cyrus.

Tricon Films + Television sold two original comedy specials from Levity Entertainment Group (LEG) – Erik Rivera: I’m No Expert and Gina Brillon: Pacifically Speaking – for digital release. The specials are now available on iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, PlayStation, Google Play, and Xbox across the U.S.; both currently air on NuvoTV. They are the first programs to be launched as part of Tricon’s recent multi-title partnership with Sony Network Entertainment International.
 
French actor Gerard Depardieu is in talks to star in upcoming Netflix original series Marseille. The eight eps will follow the story of Robert Taro, the mayor of the town of Marseille for 25 years. The story picks up when Taro chooses his successor, but upcoming elections will pit the two against each other. Depardieu is known for his roles in The Man in the Iron Mask and Life of Pi.
 
In more Netflix news: the streaming service is whetting fans’ appetites with new images of the upcoming Wet Hot American Summer original series by releasing photos for the show, which premieres on July 31. Wet Hot American Summer stars the majority of the original film’s cast members, such as Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks and Bradley Cooper. WHAS was originally a 2001 feature film.
 

 
ADVERTISING

 
Storage company MakeSpace enlisted High Maintenance creators Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair for three commercials. The ads showcase MakeSpace’s app-controlled storage service, and when it could best come in handy: when a child leaves for college or a landlord kicks out a tenant. High Maintenance originally debuted as an independent web series in 2012, was picked up for a second season by Vimeo and most recently moved to HBO in six new episodes.
 
Google is jumping into e-commerce with its TrueView for Shopping ads, a format that allows viewers to purchase items within the ad itself. Using the same platform as YouTube, the mobile e-commerce structure enables brands to highlight products related to the video being seen. Viewers purchase buy from the brand’s website, not from the service provider. Advertisers must have a Google Merchant Center account to participate.
 
Digital studio Forge Apollo and Breathless Resorts + Spas teamed up with Vine stars Amanda Cerny (2.8 million followers), Eric Dunn (three million followers) and The Gabbie Show (2.3 million followers) for a branded content and social campaign. The agreement includes multiple videos for YouTube and Facebook as well as Twitter, Instagram and Vine, with support from the stars to promote the new Breathless Resorts + Spas brand. The first video launched this weekend across platforms.

BBC Worldwide announced that Herb Scannell is stepping down as President, BBC Worldwide North America. Ann Sarnoff, currently Chief Operating Officer, BBC Worldwide North America has been promoted to the position. Sarnoff has overseen major revenue streams for the company since joining in 2010, including ad sales and affiliate sales for BBC America and BBC World News (until end of 2014), TV and digital content sales, BBC.com, and home entertainment and licensing.
